Gold: you're indestructible (even if the price goes down sometimes)
I read in the Sunday press that allegedly the “FCA offers to bend the rules to land Arm float”. That is certainly something to keep an eye on this year, especially as the FTSE 100 - unlike many of its global peers - is somewhat light in the excitable world of technology stocks. An area the FTSE 100 is heavily exposed to however is the commodity sector. Last week may have seen “London’s FTSE 100 Index ended the week on a high having reached its highest ever score, beating the previous record of 7,903.5 set in May 2018”, but you may have seen that natural gas, oil and silver prices have fallen even further this year and even my beloved gold is only up a couple of percent in dollar terms over the first five or so weeks of 2023…- By Chris Bailey of Financial Orbit |

Notes from Underground – Most read articles for the week ending 4 Feb 2023
The most-read non-Tom article this week is actually the Visual Capitalist graphic, The Biggest Global Risks of 2023, which is a first. The most-read non-Tom non graphic article is by Chris Bailey with Why FTSE 100 stocks such as GSK and Vodafone are always worth thinking about (but only one of them is a buy today) at No 3 or No 8 including Bearcasts.

Red Rock Resources shares up 18% at 0.34p – rumours, rumours
I still own my shares in Red Rock Resources (RRR) if only as a constant reminder of my own folly. But on Friday they jumped by 17.5% to 0.34p. I am still well out of the money but I suppose every dog (with fleas) has its day. There are two rumours.- By Tom Winnifrith |

Caracal Gold letter to FCA: does it support insider dealing & not disclosing price sensitive information?
The FCA appears to be plodding on with its enquiry into Caracal Gold (GCAT) despite the company admitting to a litany of wrong doings including share trading by its CEO Robbie McCrae while sitting on price sensitive information (insider dealing to you and me) and massive breaches of the disclosure rules. This is an open and shut case and McCrae should be in prison. There are also questions for Andrew Monk of VSA Capital. I have sent another letter to the FCA which regulates ( no sniggering at the back) both the Standard List where Caracal’s shares are traded and also Mr Monk and VSA.- By Tom Winnifrith |

Life is busy…even in the boring UK government bond markets
Were the last twenty-four hours or so the busiest time for global investors this corporate earnings season? For those of you who just look at names listed on the UK markets, maybe the inevitable Bank of England rate rise was as exciting as it got, but for us global market punters, there was a hell of a lot going on. But - like the complete investment sad sack I am - that is what makes it exciting…- By Chris Bailey of Financial Orbit |
