Malcolm Stacey misquotes me but is wrong about Inmarsat anyway - don't fight the tide

Published 7 days ago

Malcolm Stacey is old enough to know about King Canute. In fact he is so old that he was there as a boy when the King sat in his chair on the beach and attempted to turn back the tide. Malcolm surely you remember the day as if it was yesterday? In which case why do you forget this valuable lesson when it comes to Inmarsat (ISAT) and your article today in which you misquote me and get it wrong in so many other ways.

Avanti Communications - tell us about the QSAT (now tits up) revenue you have booked

Published 9 days ago

Oh King of the bombasts, David Williams is there something you are not telling us about your crumbling POS business Avanti Communications (AVN). Yes... that £13.6 million deal with QSAT. You know the company that has just gone bust. This is all about revenue recognition you bombastic prick.

Sell Petro Matad Before the Death Spiral Picks up Speed

Published 15 days ago

It is extremely rare for companies to resort to death spiral financing without serious damage to their share price (Gulf Keystone pulled it off a few years ago, but it really doesn’t happen often). Mongolian oil explorer Petro Matad (MATD) is unlikely to be an exception to this rule.

Tom Winnifrith: The Top short sellers, bears and fraudbusters all together on April 1 - don't miss out

Published 65 days ago

You might hate bear raiders. You might think that short selling is unethical. But what you cannot argue with is that ignoring men such as Evil Knievil when they sniff out a fraud or accounting malpractice will cost you a packet. At last year's UK Investor Show the Country's top bears did a detailed presention on AIM darling Avanti Communications, one of the AIM companies most beloved by professional fund managers. Since that warning Avanti shares have collapsed by more than 90%. This year the bears have new targets.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: You cannot finesse & trade fundamentals: ref Minoan & Wishbone

Published 66 days ago

The Mrs (on maternity leave) is off galavanting somewhere. Eight days ahead of UK Investor, the busiest time of the year, I am babysitting. I am such a god damn frigging feminist. Anyhow I record this in terror lest Joshua wakes up. In today's podcast I explain why you cannot finesse a trade on a fundamental play and discuss Minoan (MIN) and Wishbone (WSBN) in that vein. I look at Digital Barriers (DGB) the latest triumph from Cloudtag (CTAG) moron in chief Liam Nichols. I discuss Tethys (TPL) which like Cloudtag is soon to leave the AIM Casino, Nyota (NYO) and London Capital (LCG).

Avanti Communications Kenya contract - it's 'avin' a giraffe

Published 68 days ago

Drowning in debt Avanti Communications (AVN) is 'avin' a giraffe once again with a new announcement of deal with no financials attached which is almost certainly utterly meaningless. Today we head to Kenya.

And this another reason why folks just can't take ADVFN seriously...its joke awards are announced

Published 69 days ago

The joke awards from ADVFN (AFN) are here again and yet again Brokerman Dan is honoured as the share blogger of the year. Two wins in three years. Nothing to do with him being on the board of delisted & shamed Sefton Resources together with his pals the ADVFN bosses, running an online tipsheet with the ADVFN Chairman this is all down to merit. Oh yes it is. Stop sniggering at the back! Actually it is not the most "interesting" award.

Is Hardman Research hiring LSE BB Morons to pen its worthless reports - ref the dog Advanced Oncotherapy

Published 75 days ago

Advanced Oncotherapy (AVO) is, as you know, utterly desperate to create buying interest in its shares so that death spiral shysters Bracknor can dump £13.7 million of equity onto the market over the next year. That is not going well and so Advanced today boasts that it has paid investment analyst prostitutes for hire, Hardman, to publish a glossy note. This report is so unbelievably unbalanced that I can only assume that Hardman outsourced the work to the Bulletin Board Morons on the LSE Asylum. Folks can see through this shite and the shares are down by a penny at just 40p bid which is very bad news for Advanced as explained HERE.

Two ways to play Avanti Coms insanity as the shares head for zero

Published 85 days ago

Poster child for the dogs on AIM heading for zero is Avanti Communications (AVN) which plumbed new lows this week with a dreadful H1 statement. For a supposedly maturing business to have interest expenses more than turnover is astounding. This is a product of its recent insane more-debt-for-debt swap.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: from Jewish Vlachs to Avanti Coms - a business that can never ever work so is toast

Published 85 days ago

I answer an email from a reader who reckons the Vlachs, (world's greatest living expert, or so he says, Dr TJ Winnifrith), are really Jews and that opens up a wider issue of Jewish settlements in Greece. Then the main issue of the podcast, why Avanti Communications (AVN) will go to Zero? Quite simply its business model is flawed. There are other red flags to consider but I strike at the crux of the matter.

The Worst Research Note of the Year to date? Edison on worthless Avanti Communications

Published 88 days ago

Employer of convicted felon, the cop mugger champagne Charlie Gibson, investment prostitutes Edison will publish bullish research notes and interviews with any company as long as they dip into their shareholders' funds. The interview with the bombastic prick David Williams who earns a seven figure wedge for running Avanti Communications (AVN) into the ground last summer ( see HERE) was a classic of its genre. Today Edison has published a note saying Avanti shares are worth 109p. The market thinks the report is worthless bog-paper and the shares are down by almost 10% at just 14.875p.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Plutus Powergen was doomed when its boss said he liked my work

Published 88 days ago

An early bearcast as, much to the dread of my morbidly obese three legged cat Oakley, we are about to suffer an invasion of the working classes. Of course praising my work was not the biggest sin of Plutus Powergen (PPG), that was its oink on rebasing of options and bonuses. But now it has a bigger problem, OFGEM and I reckon it has every reason to be worried. Then I look at 88 Energy (88E) suspended in Oz but not on AIM ahead of a placing. Then it is on to Amur (AMC) again and to Avanti Coms (AVN) whose shares are just 14,5p. That is 14.5p too high. Finally a long look at changes in retail and what that means for us all. That is based on a Wolf Street article HERE.  I also refer to the series I am running on my 1970s childhood in rural Northants HERE. Gosh the world changes rapidly.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast - with apologies to Bjørge Lillelien

Published 90 days ago

I am sure that after events today at Cloudtag (CTAG) you had a good idea how this podcast would start! I move on - as I await apolgies from hundreds of morons for all the abuse and attacks - to cover Avanti Communications (AVN), ECR Minerals (ECR), Milestone Group (MSG), Redcentric (RCN), Red Leopard (RLH) and SalvaRx (SALV) where it is placing ahoy! Oh yes, Aidan Earley has served  me with a libel suit. Natch I will see the bitchez in Court but I too have a little surprise for Aidan. More on that later. Smiley face.

Cobham Profit Warning Number Five: The Jaguar and the Tree - sell at 115p

Published 100 days ago

The legendary bear Robert W Wilson once mused about his modus operandi: “I’m not interested in climbing into a tree and wrestling the jaguar out of the tree. I am interested in someone shooting the jaguar out of the tree and then I will go and cut the thing apart

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: My legs feel like logs, I am just too old for this manual labour malarky

Published 101 days ago

I will produce a detailed photo article on my manual labours today on the fields at the Greek Hovel later today but I am rapidly concluding that I am getting a bit old for this manual labour malarky. No doubt six months on a building site over the summer will knock me into shape. In terms of the markets Steve Moore is a nice guy. He needs to learn to be a total bastard like me. I comment on Brave Bison (BBSN) where  young Steve was just far too nice - someone at Brave should be doing a per walk. In a similar vein I comment on Milestone Group (MSG). Then it is onto the much ramped Frontera Resources (FRR), ditto China Africa (CAF) and then onto Inmarsat (ISAT) and Avanti Communications (AVN). Oh and I have chatted to Colin Bird of Xtract Resources (XTR).

Avanti Communications now just 18.75p to sell - but bonds tell you that it is still 100% too high! S&P alert.

Published 107 days ago

I am still boondoggled by the way that Avanti Communications (AVN) managed to get a refinancing away. You will remember that the cash guzzling satellites business which misses every operational target going was set to run out of what little cash it had left. Amazingly it persuaded its bond holders to agree to accept stacks of interest on its bonds in new ( equally worthless) bonds. And it got the institutional mugs to sign up for more bonds.

Avocet Mining is a cracking short

Published 119 days ago

I wrote a while back about Avocet (AVM), suggesting that the share price fluctuations, which were linked to the fortunes of 1392 ounces of gold seized by workers at its Inata mine in Burkina Faso, ignored the fact that the company was essentially insolvent.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: The great director share buying spoof, oh Joe you are such a naughty boy

Published 122 days ago

You think that following director share buys is smart? Not always. I start with Coral Products where old Joe Grimond really is spoofing us all with a recycling of a dividend that really should not be paid. Coral also highlights those scallywags at Cairn signing off on another RNS lie just like they do for the fraud  Cloudtag (CTAG). Then I look at Quindell (QPP) in that vein and at Avanti Communications (AVN) commenting on its refinancing completed today. Then it is onto the hot gossip of the cash crisis at Advanced Oncotherapy (AVO) where I have another story breaking this weekend. Finally I touch on the troubles at Guscio (GUSC)

Mitie Warns Again - A compelling Sell.

Published 127 days ago

I predicted in November that Mitie (MTO) would soon be issuing its third profit warning and that new boss Phil Bentley had every incentive to clear the decks and start afresh, demystifying the opaque balance sheet bequeathed to him by his prickly and defenestrated predecessor Ruby McGregor-Smith.

Hotel Chocolat – argues ‘performed well’, but what about on a like-for-like basis?

Published 132 days ago

Avanti Communications and its most supportive shareholder Mast Capital - er hang on?

The Avanti Coms Annual Report Released at 2.22 - Gem number 2, rewarding greedy CEO David Williams for failure

Published 152 days ago

112 minutes after the stockmarket closed on the Friday before Christmas Avanti Communications (AVN) published a red flag strewn annual report. I have already raised one mighty red flag HERE and more will follow. But now just consider how the bombastic prick of a CEO David Williams was rewarded so handsomely for failure. Shares in Avanti are just 23p today. They were c£8 when Williams sold millions of quid worth of shares as he ramped away after the launch of Hylas 1 back in 2011.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: I earn £1.50 off my Dad, Bovis is the canary in the coalmine for housepriceageddon

Published 152 days ago

One of yesterday's macro calls from the bearcast HERE is already looking good with today's warning from Bovis (BVS) which I cover in detail. I also look at Avanti Communications (AVN), United Cacao (CHOC), Cloudtag (CTAG), Harvest Minerals (HMI) and at the latest disastrous news about Slater & Gordon (SGH). Happy Christmas Aussie poltroons: wa,wa,wa wa wipeout! The article about the loathsome Guardian I reference is HERE

Avanti Communications: Gem No 1 from the 2.22 PM Annual Report

Published 153 days ago

Avanti Communications (AVN) finally published its annual report for the year ended June 30 2016 at 2.22 PM on the last Friday before Christmas, 112 minutes after the stockmarket closed. It is packed full of red flags which perhaps explains the publication at no-one is watching O'Clock. So let's start with an admission of what a crap business this is - the metrics on HYLAS 1.

Notes from Underground: 'Tis the Season

And the winner of this Year’s ShareProphets “bury bad news” Christmas sweepstake is…

Published 156 days ago

Bah, humbug! Last year’s final trading session before Christmas saw the RNS system take an early bath, but this year it was in full flow right through to 6.30pm, even though the markets closed at 12.30. So who slipped out bad news as everyone was off doing their last minute Christmas shopping? And who went the extra mile by leaving the release of bad news right into the evening? We had some cracking entries on that score, and we have a winner to announce as regards the sweepstake.

A year of fraudbusting by ShareProphets reviewed - what a bumper crop we had in 2016

Published 157 days ago

Some of our critics, notably the felon Earley, reckon we go after companies as part of some convoluted con whether those companies are good or bad. Those who actually read our site will know that very few of the companies we have attacked have been anything other than disasters for investors. The one we got wrong and admitted as much was Boohoo. But boy did we make some gutsy calls in 2016 - we had a bumper year of fraud busting.

2016 in review: our top 30 articles and Tom's ten most read non financial pieces

Published 158 days ago

As the year draws to a close it is only natural that we look back on the past twelve months. And it has been twelve months of achievement. It is a great achievement in that our writers have continued to write exactly what they want without any editorial interference. So Cynical Bear & Gary Newman have knocked shares I own. So what? We really do support free speech.  And it has been a year when we have "dealt with" more frauds and lies on the AIM casino and the main market than ever before. That really is the USP of ShareProphets.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast - The great ladies man David Williams not that bombastic prick from Avanti

Published 159 days ago

Getting my excuses in early: if I make any errors it is because I cannot see properly for reasons I explain. I then look at Aortech (AOR), Eden (FRAUD), Aurum Mining (AUR) as in David Williams, Karelian Diamonds (KDR), Falanx (FLX),  in real detail FastForward (FFWD), another hugely overvalued ramp in which my good friend Jim Mellon is involved and finally Hotel Chocolat (HOTC) where I have misgivings. For photos of chocolate as art taken by me on Monday go HERE

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Cloudtag - this is why a 100% wipeout is inevitable (and Mkango you are bastards)

Published 160 days ago

I am not in the best of moods today. But that is not the fault of JK Rowling as her film (see yesterday) was actually not bad. In the firing line a detailed look at Avanti Communications (AVN), a lot of questions about the Worthington (WRN) fraud now in liquidation and questions for the FCA/UKLA about that. I look at Cloudtag (CTAG) another fraud and another zero in waiting, at 1Spatial (SPA) and at the bastards at Mkango (MKA) - and how they legged over punters at the Mining Maven seminar. The bastards.

"Timber! time" at Avanti Communications & the sheer pointlessness of Edison Research - the worst research note of 2016

Published 165 days ago

Shares in drowning in debt Avanti Communications slumped again on Wednesday to a new record low of 18p - the market cap is now just £27.6 million and death is imminent. As I pointed out at the weekend, its shares could be suspended on December 30th but its real worry is insolvency - it will be out of cash by January and it looks impossible to refinance. The cry is Timber! This once mighty AIM play is falling and will soon be lying as a rotting corpse on the forest floor. Where has all the money gone?

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast - the Curse of Justin the Clown strikes again

Published 168 days ago

In this podcast I look at Daniel Stewart (DAN) where Waseem Shakoor closed his short today. I look at the lunacy there, the lunacy at Cloudtag (CTAG) and show how it is the same folks, the sort of folks who are also preyed on by conman Darren Winters. On that note please read THIS ARTICLE TODAY - and tweet it out and link to it on Facebook and on any website you can. I look at Strat Aero (AERO), Ferrum Crescent (FCR), Avanti Communications (AVN) and then at another stock cursed by the frothing endorsement of the Clown, MySquar (MYSQ) which is a right old dog and its well spun RNS today can't hide that.

Avanti Communications share suspension on December 30? New bond default?

Published 171 days ago

Well here is an early Christmas present for all good bears, Avanti Communications (AVN) has sort of fessed up to the fact that its shares may be suspended from the AIM Casino on 30th December and that it may be facing a new bond default. Oh dear. If that is not a cue to sell as fast as you can, what is?

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: 550kg of olives harvested in one day, I'm cream crackered

Published 177 days ago

I am utterly wiped out after day one of what looks like being a cracking harvest. A full photo report is HERE. In the podcast I discuss votes tomorrow in Austria and Italy and what they mean and why we bears are feeling good about the lack of a Santa Rally. Trump was Santa this year and that rally is over. I explain why I disagree with Malcolm Stacey's article today. I then look at a number of AIM stocks set to slide and why, as I refer to Steve's piece earlier. In focus: Avanti Communications (AVN), Advanced Oncotherapy (AVO), Telit (TCM), Boohoo (BOO), Tungsten (TUNG), Fastjet (FJET), Cloudtag (CTAG), African Potash (AFPO) and I have a few words about Worthington (WRN)

UKLA & Worthington - this is surreal

Published 178 days ago

This is beyond satire. On Friday night, as it does every night, the UKLA published via RNS its list of companies subject to potential bids and guess what? Worthington is still there. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast - Please God let those emails arrive so I can ruin someone's weekend

Published 178 days ago

I have had some emails read out to me and they are dynamite. I hope they will land in my in-box soon. I shall pop into the small church on the way to the Greek Hovel tonight to say a prayer for their safe arrival as if they arrive some folks are in deep deep merde and it will certainly be an ouzo o'clock moment.  Please join me in my prayers. Elsewhere I look at Boohoo.com (BOO), Avanti Communications (AVN), Cloudtag (CTAG), Mosman Oil & Gas (SHITE), African Potash (FRAUD), 88 Energy (HYPE) and with that I wish you all a happy weekend.

So back to the stockmarket I look at Finnaust (FAM), Audioboom (BOOM), Avanti Communications (TOAST), Condor Gold (CNR), Advanced Oncotherapy (AVO), Webis (WEB) and Anglesey Mining (AYM) which is spouting bullshit today as it places.

Avocet Mining: A Rollercoaster Ride to Zero

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: AIM Death List Update 4 - Four New Entrants, now 10 kills from 27

Published 190 days ago

On 13 June I started my 21 stock Death list portfolio - 21 shares heading for zero or being booted off the market - see HERE. Until now 27 stocks have entered the portfollio and I am claiming ten kills - not bad eh? Today I go over the four kills since the last update and add four new entrants to the portfolio. Do the Cloudtag morons really want to bet against me with my current kill rate? I review all 21 now current members. The stocks mentioned are: Worthington, JQW, Jiasen, Camkids, China Chaintek, Jersey Oil & Gas, Mosman Oil & Gas, Monitise, Outsourcery, Magnolia Petroleum, Arian Silver, Sareum, Avanti Communications, Daniel Stewart, Mariana Resources, Sefton Resources, Golden Saint Resources, Sovereign Mines of Africa, Afren, Wandisco, Tungsten, Blur, Auhua, Afriag, InternetQ, Servision, Igas, Cloudtag, African Potash & Slater & Gordon.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: talking to baby Joshua and watching a film about submarines

Published 196 days ago

The Mrs was off getting her hair down ahead of a Christmas Party, the Cloudtag (CTAG) morons were harassing innocent folks to get at me and I was watching a film about submarines with baby Joshua. What a day of domestic bliss. Meanwhile I look at gold stocks and Avocet Mining (AVM) in particular. Then at Mosman Oil & Gas where the City's top oil analyst Zac "the Knife" Phillips needs fisking, Milestone Group (MSG), Avanti (AVN) and Strat Aero (AERO)

Avanti hurtles towards the trap door

Challenger Acquisitions – Is this wheel still moving?

Published 198 days ago

Having listened to Tom’s Bearcast on the topic yesterday, I thought I’d add my tuppence-worth on Challenger Acquisitions (CHAL), which like one of the Giant Observation Wheels that it designs, appears to be moving so slowly that one wonders whether it is actually moving at all.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Spoofing investors with Avanti, Challenger, Rosslyn, & Proteus ( a blast from the past) but NOT Cloudtag

Published 199 days ago

Spoofing is what Avanti Communications (AVN), Challenger Acquisitions (CHAL) and Rosslyn Data (RDT) do as did Proteus, a scam I exposed back in the naughty nineties. I explain what they all do ( or did) and why they do it and what to watch for. Spoofing is different from lying as Cloudtag (CTAG) does for a few distinct reasons. The Proteus tale is a hoot for what it is worth. Boy those days were fun.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: The poppy debate is about "cultural bigotry in post Brexit Britain" said the wanker on Radio 4

Published 200 days ago

I despair about the liberal elite. After Brexit and Trump they still don't get it as some idiot on Radio 4 demonstrated again today. Oh well, now it is over to the Italians to give them their next kicking. I cover their awful reaction to Trump today HERE. Then it is onto Trump, economics and the market then Mobile Streams (MOS) and them in detail the dodgy goings on with the Avanti Communications (AVN) share price.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Mosman is avin a giraffe, Drain the swamp!

Published 201 days ago

I have a few more words on the Triumph of The Donald and the demise of Crooked Hillary. Ha! But my main thoughts on that are HERE. Then I look at Avanti Communications (AVN), Andalas (ADL), Green Dragon (GDG) and Greka Drilling (GDL) before having a detailed look at Mosman (MSMN) shares in which are up by 260% today which is bonkers.

Another body blow for Avanti Coms as it drowns in debt

Surely it is only a matter of time before cash burning and downing in debt satellites group Avanti Communications (AVN) calls in the receivers? Keen to assist and bring forward that great ouzo o'clock day for we members of the global shorting conspiracy, I have some more bad news today. Oh dear. Oh dear.

Avanti deals with drowning in debt by taking on more debt - share price death still almost certain

Published 224 days ago

There is a philosophical game called the fishing village. And today we saw this played out in reality by Avanti Communications (AVN) as it struggles to avoid insolvency.

Telit - now the biggest short on AIM?

Published 231 days ago

There are many smaller companies on AIM that are heading for zero as they are either almost out of (other folks) cash - Avanti Communications (AVN), IGAS (IGAS) or are plain frauds like African Potash (AFPO) nor Cloudtag (CTAG). But if you are a looking for a big company with plenty of borrow that is ripe for a share price collapse look to Israeli tech stock Telit (TCM). At 278p the market cap is a monstrous £321 million, call it $400 million. That is a rum n coke.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Avanti inches to zero and Arian - once a dog always a dog - it needs shooting!

I start this podcast with a look at Avanti Communications (AVN) where I hope you ignored the ramblings of snot gobbler's colleagues at the FT and stayed short. 0p is still looking likely and I discuss the problems IIs face today. I look at Arian Silver (AGQ), a dog with fleas which has served the fat useless bastards on the board and its crony capitalist advisers well as punters have been shafted year after year. I look at Northern Petroleum (NOP) where today's dismal results tell you that it is placing ahoy AGAIN, at Petropavlovsk (POG), Galantas (GAL), Boxhill (BOX) and at Capita (CPI),

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Xtract Resources a non cash shell ahoy? P45s for Steve Moore & Gary Newman

Published 249 days ago

Thanks to Steve Moore and Gary Newman we own shares in Xtract Resources (XTR). Both deserve P45s for that. I discuss this disaster as well as another hole in the ground in Bongo Bongo land which stinks - Armadale Capital (ACP). Then it is onto Newmark Security (NMT) - Graham Neary hang your head in shame for this exercise in nepotistic value destruction - before I look at Gulf Keystone (GKP) and the administration waiting to happen that is Avanti Communications (AVN)

Avanti Communications - new evidence emerges of just how desperate is its cash crunch

Published 250 days ago

Ceteris paribus Avanti Communications (AVN) will be trading whilst insolvent within weeks - its cash will not be sufficient to meet contracted capex and bills payable. That is why it is delaying publishing audited results for the year to June 30th 2016 - no auditor is going to sign off on anything from what is an insolvency waiting to happen. Avanti is trying to hide the awful truth but industry sources are revealing its desperate measures to stay afloat.

5 Questions for insolvency in waiting Avanti Communications

Published 251 days ago

The FRC is already looking at the grossly misleading way that Avanti Communications (AVN) bodged its June 2015 annual results. I reckon Avanti is trying to commit an even bigger crime against prudent accounting with its 2016 numbers and they key is a satellite which is now on the move. But Avanti and its ghastly and morally bankrupt Nomad Cenkos, of Quindell infamy, are trying not to reveal the truth. So have five critical questions for Avanti and the shamed Cenkos.

Avanti Communications - Friday's RNS just rings false: Collapse still a slam dunk

Published 253 days ago

Hat tip to reader G for fisking the horseshit RNS from Avanti Communications (AVN) on Friday which should be read as a tacit admission that the game is over. This remains a slam dunk sell and almost certain zero. Here's why.

Avanti Communications Shafts its Bondholders

Published 253 days ago

A few years ago when listed high street retailers were going down like ninepins they would invariably have the decency to inform shareholders that their equity was worthless shortly before implosion. “Little or no value” was the usual phrase.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Evil Knievil's thoughts on naming babies

Published 255 days ago

Not a lot of people know this but the middle name of Simon Cawkwell, aka Evil Knievil, is "Modesty". He is thus one of many people who has come up with a helpful suggestion on what to name my son born today - thank you to all of you for your good wishes. In today's podcast I look at Avanti Communications (AVN), Rosslyn Data Technologies (RDT), Levrett (LVRT) and Progility (PGY). I should get some sleep after being up all night but it is a very exciting day for us here. I will be back with a longer bearcast over the weekend.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: From A for Avanti to Z for Zero via F for Flea

Published 258 days ago

Still no news on Tom Jnr but I shall keep you posted. Actually the Mrs has banned the name Tom and is on a bit of a roll for cot related reasons. On the markets I look at Avanti Communications (AVN), Ocado (OCDO) and in detail Corero (CNS) and Tyratech (TYR) and cannot resist a smug mention of Wishbone Gold (WSBN) after my weekend comment HERE.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: My father shouts out from Pedants corner

Published 277 days ago

My father wants it known that my podcast joke about 14th century pews shows how ignorant his son is as pews only arrived in churches in the nineteenth century. Moving on...I look at how events at Taihua (TAIH) and African Potash (AFPO) show what a joke regulation on AIM has become. I comment on Blenheim Natural Resources (BNR), Strat Aero (AERO), Avanti Capital (AVA) and its chairman Phil "InterX" Crawford and his other charge Lombard Risk (LRM). I look at Coral Products (CRU) where you need to dig beneath headline numbers and then I comment on Optibiotix (OPTI)

Avanti kicks off the silly Season - still a sell

Published 287 days ago

They don’t call this the silly season for nothing. Shortly after Inmarsat (ISAT)  announced on August 1st that it was not interested in Avanti (AVN), a story appeared in the FT saying that it had in fact been willing to pay “at least” 140p per share (subject to due diligence) right up until the end of July, around five times the price at the time.

Avanti Communications - the bonds still yield 18%: tells you FT wrong, shares are toast

Published 290 days ago

Shares in Avanti (AVN) peaked at c50p following the reports in the FT that Inmarsat (ISAT) might have considered a 140p bid, a claim that seems ludicrous given the fact that Avanti is drowning in debt and needs a refinancing within weeks or it is tits up time. The shares have now drifted back to 37.375p today. Folks are starting to panic...perhaps they have looked at the bonds.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast - the 3 Xs who blow apart most AIM scams and frauds

Published 291 days ago

Firstly I have a problem with my box set of "The Omen" and ask for your help. I then discuss in light of today's three legal scoops with documents falling into my paws ( Strat Aero - HERE, Iofina - HERE and Golden Saint Resources - HERE) the 3Xs who help investigative journalists do their job and my encounters with all three on Quindell and other cases. At a company level I look at: Card factory (CARD), Iofina (IOF), Noricum Gold (NMG), Avanti Communications (AVN) and xCite Energy (XEL) and i also discuss why Cloudtag (CTAG) shareholders are like a swarm of wasps and what that means.

Notes from Underground: Rickaayy! I mean, Avaanti!

Avanti share price spike: the company speaks and says nothing at all

Published 297 days ago

I have commented on Avanti Communications (AVN) twice in two days on the bearcasts HERE and HERE. Today with the shares zooming ahead to a peak of 50p (they are now 44p) the company commented but said nothing at all. Ronan Keating would be proud.

Uber Bombast David Williams stated:

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: another Vision of suffering for eternity in hell

Published 297 days ago

Earlier this week I discussed HERE how eternity in hell might involve being lectured by a ponce from Bristol City Council on Health & Safety Rules and EU regulations on child car seats. I have another vision of hell today and it involves the Mother in law, Mothercare and discussions about prams. On other, more stockmarket related matters, I discuss, in some detail, Avanti Communications (AVN), Grafenia (GRA) and Glenwick (GWIK). I have a few more words on our devastating expose earlier today (HERE) on Strat Aero (AERO) and I offer praise up to the delightfully politically incorrect Anthony Coombs of S&U (SUS) for his trading statement today covering Brexit in which he sticks it firmly to the liberal chattering classes of doomsayers.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Nightmares arrive in threes: The Mother in law at 5 PM, Avanti and African Potash

Published 298 days ago

Oakley and I are bracing ourselves for the arrival of the mother in law. Wish us luck. At least I can flee to Shipston tomorrow, my poor cat is trapped with his Pokemon. Then I look at Avanti Communications (AVN) where the shares are surging on the back of an FT report - is this bogus? I look at Messaging International (MES) where I am not interested even after the fall, Magnolia Petroleum (MAGP) and a sector read across from the dire news earlier (HERE), Scotgold (SGZ), Johnston Press (JPR) and then do some detailed maths on African Potash (AFPO) and the loan from the FD's wife which could kill it stone dead on September 1.

Reader Poll: When will Avanti Communications shares go to zero

Published 299 days ago

Avanti Communications (AVN) may try to con us into thinking that it is a bid target but the reality is that its best hope is that bondholders take a haircut in any takeover. that means shareholders face a wipeout. It is more likely that no-one bids and this is a zero. So when do you think Avanti is going bust. Vote now and before a midnight deadline in a reader poll. The shares are 22.5p today and falling. So vote early, vote often, vote below:

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast - in an ffing awful mood after ante-natal class

Published 300 days ago

When I go to hell it will be to spend eternity in an ante-natal class such as the two hour ordeal I endured today. I am unbelievably angry at having wasted two hours of my life on this cobblers. Moving on I look at ECR Minerals (ECR), Gulf Keystone (GKP), Avanti Communications (AVN) Eden Research (FRAUD) in the wake of the demise of its sister company Environmental Recycling (see HERE), Braveheart Investments (BRH) - run by an old Sefton man, African Potash (AFPO) and its partner in slime Blenheim Natural Resources (BNR)

Avanti Coms tries to spin its way out of trouble - Inmarsat exposes the lie: not bidding

Published 301 days ago

Three days ago Sky News reported that Inmarsat (ISAT) had approached Avanti Communications (AVN) with a view to making a bid. This was, as it happens, not true and today Inmarsat has exposed the lie in full. The story here is not only of the looming financial bankruptcy of Avanti but of its full blown moral bankruptcy too. This is shocking at every level, another milestone of shame for both Avanti and for the AIM Casino.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast - Business models that are fecked - European banks to cash guzzlers on AIM

Published 303 days ago

The last podcast recorded with the audience of my father for a few days sees a few comments on how he yearns for the socialist paradise of Albania in the good old days. Whatever. I look at Nostra Terra (NTOG) and what it must do and another bear point for Avanti Communications (AVN) I had overlooked, at FastForward (FFWD) and why it is such a dog with fleas and at broken business models in both new media and the European Banks. The truth is that the Emperor's New Clothes, in both cases, really are not that impressive.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Roland "fatty" Cornish - "oops I did it again

Published 304 days ago

I start with Gulf Keystone (GKP) and a share price driven by morons. talking of morons, London's most useless Nomad, Roland "fatty" Cornish has screwed up again. This time it is Nyota Minerals (NYO) although the real issue here is when is Nyota bust. I think it might be already. I look at Avanti and ask who is smarter: Tom Dobell of M&G, a Bulletin Board Moron or an institutional investor in bonds. I look at Koovs (KOOV), Essentra (ESNT) and Audiooboom (BOOM).

S&P as damning as Moody's on Avanti - its implied view also that the shares are worth 0p

Published 304 days ago

Moody's was damning enough on Avanti Communications (AVN) as I noted earlier. The clear takeaway was that the shares were worth 0p given Moody's view that bondholders were in for a haircut. Now I bring you what the other credit rating agency S&P says. It is equally bearish.

Moody's Downgrade on Avanti Communications Bonds "default inevitable" - tells you equity is worth 0p

Published 304 days ago

Moody's has downgraded its ratings on the junk bonds of Avanti Communications warning bond holders that they would probably get just 35-65% of their cash back. In that case the equity is worthless - note the explicit warning that Avanti will face a cash crisis potentially within weeks. Moody's states viz a viz the bonds " Moody's sees a default by Avanti over the next 6-12 months as almost inevitable." On that basis the target price for Avanti shares has to be ZERO. Sell while you can.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast - Avanti won't be playing Germany in the invasion of France role play

Published 306 days ago

I am challenged to comment on Cenkos (CNKS) as an investment in light of todays news on its role in the Quindell fraud (HERE). Okay, I do my best. Then it is on to Techfinancials (TECH), Advanced Oncotherapy (AVO) and some friendly advice for Malcolm Stacey, Gulf Keystone (GKP), XCite Energy (XEL) and then I end with Avanti Communications (AVN) where I hope you understand the historical analogy.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast - My father will need to admit to liking Theresa May

Published 315 days ago

Tomorrow my father faces his interview at the Conservative Club and I have been coaching him on what he can say as a deluded lefty to get access to the cheep beer. Elsewhere I discuss how share prices can defy gravity temporarily and why with reference to Gable Holdings (GAH) and Gulf Keystone (GKP). Then I move onto Nyota (NYO), Avanti Communications (AVN), Strat Aero (AERO) and then, in some detail, the dog run by liars that is African Potash (AFPO)

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Avanti Communications bull vs bear

Published 317 days ago

I had the weirdest of phone calls on Friday from a chap who insists that as a bear of Avanti Communications (AVN) I have got it wrong. I have spoken about his thesis to Lucian and having thought about it over lunch at the White Bear having run the gauntlet of Shipston's Bulgarian Big Issue seller, I am more sure than before that I am not wrong to remain bearish. I discuss the bull vs bear debate giving both sides of the argument and my conclusion.

The Corruption of the financial media part 3 - The Telegraph AGAIN and this time its Collagen

Published 321 days ago

In the past week I have flagged up two prime examples of why the established financial media is part of the problem of AIM corruption not the solution HERE and HERE. Today the same paper, the Torygraph, serves up a third. I refer you to the market report written by pouting Tara Cunningham ( see below).

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Follow the Money, always follow the money

Published 321 days ago

A short bearcast because of the family situation flagged up yesterday. I start with the election of Theresa May which seems to have pleased the markets BUT NOT ME!. Then I look at Orchard Funding (ORCH), IGAS (IGAS), Avanti Communications (AVN) and Golden Saint Resources (GSR)

Avanti Communications announces strategic review - aka - "we are fecked"

Published 321 days ago

Oh dear, this is the end for you my friend....Avanti Communications (AVN) has announced a "strategic review". In other words it has admitted that it s well and truly fecked. Shareholders should, whatever the weasel words of the RNS, prepare for wipeout. This is - as we pointed out in a 25 minute presentation at UK Investor Show, a zero. The statement is typical King of the Bombast David Williams horseshit.

The Financial Media is part of the problem of AIM Corruption (again) - IGAS and The Telegraph

Published 323 days ago

Having exposed the appalling goings on at the Daily Telegraph with regards to going bust Avanti Communications (AVN) last week, now it is the turn of the sister paper the Sunday Telegraph which on its from page today has a quite shocking piece on IGAS. This might as well have been dictated by the PR flunky it is so jaw droppingly bad.

Servision – increased undrawn SEDA Death Spiral which it does not intend to draw?

Published 324 days ago

Tom Winnifrith has stuck the knife into AIM-listed Servision plc (SEV) more times than Avanti (AVN) has missed performance targets – see HERE. And so today we learn that the company has amended the terms of a financing package with YA II PN Ltd (otherwise known as Yorkville) which involved a loan agreement backed by a standby equity distribution agreement (SEDA) – for that, read “death spiral”. But the comedy is in the text of the RNS.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast - Gooseberry Crumble, Avanti crumbles

Published 325 days ago

I have spent the morning getting twitter grief for this article but the one polite twitter enquiry concerns BoxHill (BOX) and I answer that in this podcast as well as explaining why shares are both up and down since Brexit - it all depends how you look at it. I also cover Gulf Keystone (GKP), Bluebird Merchant Ventures (BMV), Advanced Oncotherapy (AVO) and Avanti Communications (AVN), I meant to talk about Bovis (BVS) but forgot. I shall try to remember tomorrow when I am down to make a gooseberry crumble. I shall report back on that over the weekend.

Tom Winnifrith bonus bearcast - 14 Red Flags you may have missed At Avanti Communications

Published 325 days ago

I would expect the collapse in the Avanti Communications (AVN) share price to continue. You cannot say this site did not warn you. In this bonus bearcast I run through 14 red flags which apply to Avanti and which I managed to jot down in less than ten minutes. Drat! I missed an obvious 15th: the promise to move from AIM to the Main Market. It did not happen. Companies that promise the jump but don't make it (think Quindell) are always red flagged.

Miserable Welsh People Odd One out Contest Result

Published 325 days ago

Yesterday I served up pictures of four Welsh folks and asked for the odd one out and - to the suprise of some readers, as you can see HERE, it had nothing to do with sheep. The four pictured taffies were: Cerys Matthews the gorgeous lead singer with the uber-Welsh group Catatonia ( part of the cool Cymru scene of the 1990s), Welsh windbag Neil Kinnock, Welsh soccer star Gareth Bale and David Williams the uber Welsh CEO of Avanti Communications (AVN) who had a rather bad day at the office yesterday and is going to have another shocker today

Avanti Communications - existing debt now yields 30%: that says shares toast

Published 325 days ago

Yesterday Avanti Communications (AVN) issued a dire lack of profits warning. Having warned folks in a special 25 minute session at UK INvestor (HERE) that this one was heading for the knacker's yard, the bear community is vindicated. Our big call is looking good. But have you seen how the existing debt ( in which Avantis drowning) responded. It says the shares - down 60% to 24p yesterday - are near as damn it toast. The target here is 0p or very close to that.

Avanti Communications - the collapsing share price means it must make a statement on Monday

Published 352 days ago

On 16 May 2016 Avanti Communications (AVN) published a third quarter trading statement in which the company's bombastic, pompous and no longer credible CEO David Williams declared "Avanti is making good progress." Shortly afterwards he proudly boasted that he had bought shares in the company at 91.25p. Today, less than four weeks later the shares have collapsed to just 53.25p to sell. On a daily basis they are being marked lower and lower. What is happening and what must Williams announce on Monday?

VIDEO: Edison Interview with Avanti's David Williams - how big is your cock, huge or massive? And more

Published 356 days ago

Paid for researcher Edison is, of course most famous as being the employer of convicted felon Champagne Charlie Gibson but it is also there to take cash for helping ramp shares in piss poor companies. And few companies could be as piss poor as Avanti Communications (AVN) run by uber bombast David "not worth a million bucks a year" Williams.  But not only does Edison publish crap research on Avanti with a target price of 427p. It also does video interviews. Cripes, the bird quizzing Williams makes Zak Mir look like Jeremy Paxman on steroids.  As you enjoy this shite from Edison you will note the shares are now just 59.5p as Williams seeks emergency bailout funding. Oi, taffy its time for a statement!

Avanti Communications now in Dana Territory & sinking

Published 362 days ago

It was just a few weeks ago that Avanti Communications (AVN) shares were in the decade of Blur and Oasis (the nineties) and bombastic CEO David Williams tried to spoof us all with a trivial share purchase costing him about all of two days of his obscene salary. Pretty quickly the shares slipped through the Maggie years and into the era of Abba and the Winter of Discontent. As I speak we are at Dana.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Boxhill, Avanti, Eden, the race to ZERO

Published 362 days ago

Ho Ho Ho, documents regarding Boxhill (BOX) have now arrived at Sheriff Towers. Can you hear me Lord Tim Razzall, are you sweating yet? I think Boxhill will beat Avanti Communications (AVN) and Eden Research (EDEN) to zero but all three are fighting hard to win and are discussed in detail. I look at Ascent (AST), Fusionex (FXI), Falcon Acquisitions (FAL) and Challenger Acquisitions (CHAL). Woof Woof Mark Gustafson.

The Predictive Powers of David Williams of Avanti infamy, or how he buries bad business

Published 367 days ago

Avanti Communications (AVN) started its AIM career not as a satellites business but as a provider of screens for pubs and shops, the loss making tin cans in space business came later. At that point uber bombast CEO David Williams decided to "lose" the original business via a demerger. Shareholders in Avanti were given stock in both entitites. Now track what happens next.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: A bad day for family Bick as Gable crashes & UKOG places ( Told Ya!)

I start off with Avanti Communications (AVN) the spoof share purchase by uber bombastic CEO David "taffy" Williams and Lucian celebrating as the shares slide. Then it is onto a bad day for the Bick brothers. Baby Bick spins for Gable (GAH), Thirsty Bick spins for UK Oil & Gas (UKOG) and I comment on both. I touch on POS Magnolia (MAGP) where it is almost certainly placing ahoy then it is onto LXB Retail (LXB), Prospex Oil (PXOG), Hostelworld (HSW) and finally a detailed comment on Nyota (NYO).

Avanti Coms: another jam tomorrow, cash munching update & piddly director purchases scream SELL

Published 378 days ago

Institutional investors continue to sell. But Avanti Communications (AVN) directors hope that piffling share purchases by themselves will persuade mug punters to follow suit. Do I care that David Williams (total package last year $1,154,445 after another year of mega cashburn) has bought 5,434 shares at 91.5p taking his holding to 1,709,144. Seriously? A guy who earns c$20,000 a week for trainwrecking this company has bought £5,000 of shares? And that is meant to show he has faith in the company? If anything it shows he has none. Now to the Q3 trading update.

Avanti Communications and the 60-80% fall in prices it is not shouting about

What is it with chaps called Williams from Wales and trainwrecking companies? We move from David at Avanti earlier HERE to Jim at Arian Silver (AGQ) who has already trainwrecked this company once. Now, after a bailout which saw it surrender any assets worth owning, Jim is at it again and today he has updated his punters on a deal in Mexico which is related party although Jim neglects to remind punters of this fact.

Avanti Communications - a new way to hit forecasts: Bongo Bongo land accounting

Published 403 days ago

You were probably wondering what deal Avanti Communications (AVN) was going to do this year to increase its sales after last year's creation of revenue when it was the only person paying money - the deal the FRC is looking at HERE. And you were also wondering how it was going to raise some cash. Natch it would not be by actually selling oodles more capacity on its satellites would it?

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast 11 April - my keyboard wont let me say fecking hell

Governments just don't pick winners - companies that boast of grant wins are an auto sell

Published 429 days ago

Call this one of the unwritten Tom Winnifrith golden rules but a company that boasts of grant wins from the State is in general a sell. This may be a tad unfair but the fact is that Government's are invariably the worst investors - they make your average Bulletin Board Moron look like Warren Buffett when it comes to spunking cash on losers.

Avanti shares slip despite another ramptastic RNS - Emperor Williams New Clothes called out!

Published 443 days ago

Historically the pattern with Avanti Communications (AVN) has been it is asked an awkward question like how much business do you do with ISIS? Or why is it that your 2015 joke accounts are being looked at by the FRC? Or, if your bonds are junk rated when do you go bust? Its shares tumble. Then it announces a new ramptastic contract win either of an unspecified amount or for many years in the future. Its shares bounce but then fade and slump when the next question is fired over.

S&P Prepares to Downgrade Avanti Bonds - warns Avanti seeking more debt

Published 455 days ago

Avanti Communications - just 24 people take up 300,000 person UK scheme

Published 455 days ago

You just cannot make this stuff up. The difference between Avanti Communications (AVN) PR hype and reality is chasmous. With a hat tip to reader BlueFrew, let us have a quick look at the £60 million programme announced in December by the Government in partnership with Avanti to roll out broadband access to 300,000 rural homes across the UK. You want the internet Mr Crofter on a remote Scottish Island so you can download some sheep porn? To hell with cutting the deficit, the ever grateful taxpayer & Avanti are here to help.

Avanti Communications - Cut the Crap you sheep shagging bombast and answer the questions

Published 455 days ago

Are you starting to see a pattern here? Avanti's (AVN) shares slide. Folks ask a couple of difficult questions and "hey presto" the company announces a totally meaningless contract win but will not answer the questions. There is a brief rally in the share price but each time uber Welsh bombast David Williams pulls this trick it has less and less effect. David you surely know that you can screw some of the sheep some of the time but you can't screw all of the shareholders all of the time.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast Death List Update - who is to replace Daniel Stewart?

Published 477 days ago

The 21 stock Death List Portfolio is now seven months old and now has its sixth kill, Daniel Stewart (DAN). We replace each kill with a new candidate for death so until today 26 entrants had seen five recorded demises. But Daniel Cesspit is the sixth (from 26) and so we need a new target for death, that is to say for seeing its shares booted off the AIM casino or going to 0p.

Tom Winnifrith's top 11 AIM stocks to fall by 100% by the summer

Published 477 days ago

There is no shortage of AIM Casino stocks that deserve to go bust, that are bust but won't admit it (yet) or which are teetering on the brink. Most will somehow be saved by yet another mega dilutive fund raise. But for some 100% equity wipeout is the only way forward. And so here in no particular order are eleven to go to zero or as near as damn it, by the summer.

Tom Winnifrith Bonus Bearcast: Avanti Interims are a turd however they are polished - this could go to 0p

Published 480 days ago

Uber Welsh king of the bombasts, David Williams of Avanti Communications (AVN) tries his best to polish the turd which are interim results out today. But look behind the headlines and the key metrics are dreadful. Look at the yield to maturity on the bonds. The shares could well go to 0p and sooner than most folks think as I explain in this special podcast.

Tom Winnifrith Bonus Bearcast - My friend you are in sheer denial on Gulf Keystone, your shares are worthless

Published 484 days ago

My earlier podcast on oil was I thought very balanced but one shareholder in Gulf Keystone (GKP) disagrees as you can see in the comments section beneath that excellent Bearcast HERE. My fried you are in denial just like Comrade wildes on LGO Energy (TOAST) and those who still believe in Avanti Communications (AVN). I refer to all three stocks but Gulf in particular as I examine the various facets of this common investor trait of denial.

The Mrs got a little confused and as a result she is in the doghouse and I am still in Bristol. I hope to arrive in Warwickshire to see my father this evening. Back on the markets Mellon-madness has broken out. I examine the joke that is the Condor Gold (CNR) ramp and also FastForward (FFWD). My pal Jim Mellon is clever..but not that clever. It is then onto worthless POS Arian Silver (AGQ), Asian Citrus (ACHL), Ten Alps (TAL) and the wider issue of earnings visibility discussed here. My Avanti Communications (AVN) reference is HERE and that is it for today.

Avanti Communications - now at 117p, downside 117p by June - 5 Questions as bonds now uber-junk

Published 494 days ago

Before Christmas shares in Avanti Communications (AVN) traded at c200p. This morning they touched 100p although they now trade at 117p. What on earth is going on? The only news from Avanti's CEO, the uber-Welsh king of the bombasts David Williams is that he will be presenting interims on 4 February. However it is not just the shares that are tanking, so too are its bonds, they are now officially uber junk and as such five massive questions need to be answered by the company with the numbers. For what it is worth my target price remains - as per Gold & Bears see HERE - 0p.

Lucian Miers 2nd share tip of the year - sell Avanti Communications at 171p offer - target as low as 0p

Published 515 days ago

On December 17 Avanti Communications (AVN) served up a quarterly update. From its bombastic CEO David Williams, a man who not only admits to, but boasts of, misleading erarly stage investors with a fake demonstration, there was the usual mix of bluster and misleading metrics. The only thing that commends Avanti is that it never fails to miss operating targets - it is, in this respect, the most consistent company on AIM.

Video: Tom Winnifrith, Lucian Miers, Matt Earl and Graham Neary 8 stocks going to Zero from Gold & Bears

This was one of the sparkiest sessions at Gold & Bears and I loved it. Each of myself, the bard of the Boleyn (Lucian Miers), the Dark Destroyer (Matt Earl) and Baby Bear (Graham Neary) selelected two stocks we thought were going to zero and explained why. They were: Fastjet (FJET), AO World (AO), Gulf Keystone (GKP), Slater & Gordon (SGH), Avanti Communications (AVN), Plus500 (PLUS), Tungsten (TUNG) and - bugger me - I can't remember Matt's other pick. Watch the video to find out, its a stormer.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast 8 December - InternetQ, battle underway, LGO a RNS that says desperate

Published 538 days ago

In today's podcast I update you all on the olive harvest - I managed four hours in the fields today despite still being in real pain. But not as much as LGO Energy (LGO) - its RNS today smells of desperation. For strategic review read "the game is up" and that also applies to Kolar Gold (KGLD). I comment on Avanti Communications (AVN) where the share price crumble is accelerating - remember debt is crack cocaine for management but for shareholders it is bad for your wealth. I comment on Silver Falcon (SILF) and tick off the grossly irresponsible, Justin the Clown of ADVFN and also on Defenx (DFX), rapidly becoming an IPO omnishambles. Then onto InternetQ (INTQ) where it is now "game on" but I end with Antrim Energy (AEY) where a concert party of Brokerman Dan, market abuser Chris OIl and ADVFN (AFN) head honcho Clem Chambers have just taken a 3% stake.

Avanti Communications - PR blather is not a substitute for answering the frigging question

Published 539 days ago

David "King of the City bombasts" Williams of Avanti Communications (AVN) always responds to weakness in his company's - grossly overhyped - share price in the same predictable fashion - he announces a contract win. But each time he announces a deal - no value disclosed natch - the market is less and less impressed. This morning what investors really want to know is whether Avanti is making money from evil terrorist murderers ISIS?

Avanti Communications offers salvation for Globo Shareholders

Published 562 days ago

Of the many lessons to be learned from the Globo (GBO) fiasco, perhaps the most salient is the danger of deriving comfort from institutional purchases. In the final days, as an obscure  German fund named Forum was hoovering up stock (the founder’s stock, as it later transpired) a lot of impressionable punters were doubtless persuaded not to sell and maybe even “average down” on the basis that these guys are professionals and therefore “must have done due diligence”

Evil Knievil closes Quindell and Avanti shorts – biggest position now Concha

Published 836 days ago

The infamous bear raider Evil Knievil says that he has now closed out his short positions in both Quindell (QPP) and Avanti Communications (AVN). He tells me “I may have made a mistake” but he has a neutral position. Both stocks, however, remain on his watch list and he says he may re-enter the fray and it will not be on the long tack. Both he insists are hugely overvalued but calling short term moves is hard.

Avanti: Back to the trough again as operating losses continue: Sell at 225p

Published 837 days ago

Last week, Avanti Communications (AVN), the cash guzzling satellite operator accompanied its interim statement with news that it had raised $91.5 million in a placing, This was an equity cushion demanded by bondholders before they stumped up more money to fund the Hylas 4 satellite so the coast is now clear for another $115 million debt to be added to the $520 million it already has, giving the company an annual interest bill of $60 million plus. Not bad for a company that has an operating cash outflow.

Avanti Communications – Statement Needed NOW! Shares are a sell BTW

Published 858 days ago

Both Lucian Miers and myself are pretty bearish on Avanti Communications (AVN) on fundamentals as explained HERE by me and HERE by the Bard of the Boleyn. I’m pretty sure that after results on the 5th February, analysts will again reach for their red pens as forecasts are once again missed or fudged. The company is drowning in debt. But reports in that must read publication Spacenews.com suggest there is perhaps a major "problemo" with Hylas 3 and an RNS is needed NOW.

Lucian Miers share tips for 2015, No 2 – Sell Avanti Communications

Published 879 days ago

Shares in Avanti (AVN) have managed to head higher in recent months thanks to a rumour that Facebook was about to bid. Now Facebook might just co-operate with Avanti to bring the internet to Bongo Bongo land but that will not earn Avanti a fortune and there is no way that a bid is on the way. So I am very happily short on fundamentals.

Tom Winnifrith BearCast December 28 - Retail Gloom, Liquidity Events and Christmas Pudding 3

Avanti Communications – Results all spin no substance & hidden revenue warning (again)

Published 987 days ago

Avanti Communications (AVN) served up full year numbers today and it all looks great. Uber-bombast CEO David Williams, who admits to misleading investors in the past, has put a great spin on what is actually a dog’s dinner. Take the four bullet points financial highlights. Three of them are a half truth, misleading or an outright lie respectively. And there are good reasons not to believe the fourth at all!

PR spinning, share price obsession, misleading investors – Avanti Communicatons, look to sell on Monday results

Avanti Communications (AVN) is a Bulletin Board darling which spews out more than its fair share of Red flag warnings. Avanti Communications – Contract win: puff, puff, huff, puff – sell target is 100p

Drowning in debt Avanti Communications (AVN) needs to get both another bond issue and an equity issue away in the next year to keep going. It has just issued a profits warning. Purecircle: The Last Shoe Yet To Drop?

Published 1039 days ago

In the last two years my seven most covered bear selections have been: Gulf Keystone (GKP), Iofina (IOF), Cupid (CUP), Quindell (QPP), Globo (GBO) Avanti(AVN) and Purecircle (PURE). With the exception of Purecircle, the other six are all firm retail favourites and I often wonder what it is that draws the private punter like a flame-bound moth to such eminently shortable stocks. One can highlight various useful themes but all seem to throw up exceptions – modestly I point oiut these have all bar one (so far) been great short calls by my good self.

Director purchases and sometimes lazy longs ...The Dark Destroyer warns you

Published 1043 days ago

Long and wrong shareholders in Quindell (QPP), Avanti Communications (AVN) and Globo (GBO) please take note of this warning amd case study from the Dark Destroyer Matt Earl. Matt Writes: A common misconception used by longs against short sellers is that a short argument can be negated by the fact that a shorted company's management may have bought stock (typically subsequent to a short attack). This is not always so and can be a dangerous (and lazy) assumption. One of many instances where it proved a mistake is in the case of Connaught (CNT).

And that brings me to Avanti Communications (AVN) up at 253p after a contract win announced today. Hmmmmm.

The second and third cover “old favourites” for the bears: Globo, blinkx, Avanti Communications, Gulf Keystone, Naibu and Iofina. The fourth covers some new Lucian shorts.

GLI Finance - Prelims: very much on track (look at the yield!)

Avanti Communications remains a stonking short

Published 1191 days ago

The initial market reaction to Avanti’s (LSE:AVN) interims to Dec 2013, released last week, was to mark the shares higher. This was no doubt a knee jerk reaction to a trumpeted 81% increase in sales and the bullish sounding flannel which preceded the numbers themselves.

Avanti Communications: Above 220p, and only above 220p, points to 260p

Published 1202 days ago

Avanti Communications (AVN), the satellite group, probably has the distinction of being a company whose fundamental profile is almost as unfathomable as is its technical. I say, despite last year’s “predictable” bull flag breakdown, which heralded a halving of the share price.

Matt Earl (The Dark Destroyer) says Avanti will miss full year forecasts and warns on numerous red flags

Published 1202 days ago

Matt Earl, the bear raider known as The Dark Destroyer remains short of Avanti Communications (AVN) and takes hear from this morning’s interims. He warns that “the chances of Avanti achieving its FY 2014 consensus forecasts are slim to none.”

Blinkx: Nightmare Scenario Target At 80p Missed By 5p – So Far

Published 1215 days ago

Apparently some blogger has been on the warpath regarding Blinkx, (BLNX) and even though his arguments are too complex for me (or I guess most people) to understand the shares have tanked. The stock is on a PE in the stratosphere and most retail investors do not even know what the company does but an injustice feels like it has been done today.

Avanti Communications: Above 225p Targets 260p Plus – Just

Published 1238 days ago

Even fans of the fundamentals of Avanti Communications (AVN) would agree that their company is an enigmatic one to say the least. What is interesting at the moment is the way that the charting position on the daily timeframe reflects such uncertainties in the way that we are almost equally divided between regarding the technical glass here as either half empty or half full.

Centamin at 46p - Risk of 40p Again Before 50p Plus

Published 1285 days ago

It would appear that in the recent past shares of Centamin (CEY) have been as disappointing as the position of the underlying metal it mines, gold. That said, given the trouble and strife in the miner’s adoptive home in Egypt it can be argued that the rebound from well below 30p at the height of the crisis to even 45p plus currently is something of an achievement.

Avanti Communications: Buy at 213p - Probable Move To 245p Initially

Avanti Communications: Matt Earl ( The Dark Destroyer) weighs in ahead of AGM Tomorrow

Published 1293 days ago

The dark Destroyer, Matt Earl is short of Avanti Communications (AVN) and so unlikely to be welcome at what will be a tightly controlled AGM tomorrow. Dissent will not be tolerated one suspect. But should anyone feel brave enough to tackle the King of the bombasts, uber-Welsh CEO David Williams...

Globo: Evil Knievil closes short, Lucian Miers stays short

What a spiv! Having called Globo (GBO) down to 10p after opening a short, we can reveal that once legendary bear raider Evil Knievil has closed his position at 52p. But not all bears are so faint hearted.

Globo – Matt Earl the dark destroyer weighs in as the company issues bizarre statement

Published 1309 days ago

AIM listed Globo (GBO) is a stock that both Lucian Miers and Evil Knievil are shorting. I reckon that it is a slam dunk sell as does the Closet Chartist. But the dark destroyer is top analyst Matt Earl who has today published a seminal piece of forensic analysis. Anyone not selling after reading Matt’s article is mad. And an RNS out today is bizarre.

Cash is fact, profit is a matter of opinion – ref Globo and Clear Leisure

Two stocks but the same story. Reported profits can be whatever you want them to be. Forget trading it is all down to how your accountant presents the numbers. Profits are a matter of opinion. Cash is a matter of fact. I start with Globo (GBO) which everyone seems to be bashing today.

Paul Scott shorting ASOS and Ocado and why he’s a Globo bear

Published 1312 days ago

Analyst Paul Scott is a well-respected commentator, a nice bloke and someone who showed he is a good judge of men in terming Tom Winnifrith "bonkers" and has historically been a long only investor. He has, however, opened up two short positions in the past week – this is a big departure for him. The shorts are ASOS (ASC) and Ocado ( OCDO).

Sell Globo: It Makes Avanti look blue chip

Published 1312 days ago

A wonderful spat has been developing on various bulletin  boards in the last few days between bulls and bears of Globo (GBO) the fast growing telecommunications software group which is capitalised at £234 million and tapped the market last week for £25 million at 71p per share. I have gone short.

Top forensic analyst Matt Earl plunges the knife into Dialight

Published 1316 days ago

Top forensic analyst Matt Earl has gone short of Dialight (DIA) and plunged the knife into the company with a withering attack. Earl was the man who called Connaught down to nil when all other analysts said buy and who has produced outstanding analysis on the woes of Avanti Communications (AVN). His Dialight report is a classic.

Evil Knievil: Horsey Triumphs, Avanti and Dialight

Published 1316 days ago

Infamous bear raider Evil Knievil is keen that all should know that he made £134,000 over the weekend from horse racing. But how to double up on the market? Evil admits that may be harder. However his two big short positions remain intact.

Avanti a rare shorting opportunity in a bull market

Published 1319 days ago

It has not been easy being a bear recently as the market rally has seen rises across the board, taking many “ jam tomorrow” stocks with it for no apparent reason. This is mostly a market for waiting rather than acting but occasionally an opportunity for action will arise. One such opportunity may well be Avanti Communications (AVN)

Evil Knievil short of Dialight at 1200p – target 600p & I agree

Published 1322 days ago

Bear raider Evil Knievil and I have had a long chat this morning about Dialight (DIA) of which he is short. The core analysis here comes from Matt Earl – the nemesis of Avanti (AVN) who has got to be the UK’s top forensic analyst and has just signed up to the UK Investor show as a star speaker.

Sell Avanti Communications at 234p – A horrid accident waiting to happen

Published 1326 days ago

I once believed in Avanti Communications (AVN). I also used to believe in the tooth fairy, Santa Claus and the idea that West Ham might one day win something again. How naïve. A while back I became a mild sceptic. I am now convinced that this is a colossal accident waiting to happen and should be shorted aggressively. It is my top AIM short to pay for Christmas.

Avanti Communications down to 235p – next stop 195p

Published 1328 days ago

I am amazed at the way that the fundamentalists are divided on this company. The bulls (lead naturally by the house broker) reckon that in the long run the shares are worth north of £10. The bears (led by Matthew Earl) seem to think that fair value is rather closer to 0p. That gives we sad chartists our opportunity.

Why I am short of Tanfield and Avanti Communications

Published 1410 days ago

Back in April I closed a bear trade at a loss in Tanfield (TAN). I figured in March that it had run out of money and that it was unlikely to raise funds at anything other than a massive discount to the share price of around 20p.

To my surprise brokers WH Ireland found some institutions dumb enough to pay 20p to raise £2.1 million for the company and the shares went well north of that on a relief rally.

They have now crashed below the placing price, never a good sign in my experience and I have reopened a short position at 18p.

Avanti Communications - a pissed off shareholder writes...

Published 1419 days ago

In a piece last week (see HERE) on AIM-listed satellite operator Avanti Communications (AVN) – in which I own some shares as a speculative investment – I noted that if the company is able to fill capacity on its satellites as planned discounted cash flow valuations suggested a multiple of the prevailing share price but that its trajectory as a still emerging company was unlikely to be smooth from here. This followed some commentary on the company which had strongly focused on the lack of an Interim Management Statement in May as there was one in May 2012 – though the company had since updated that a year-end trading statement would be forthcoming. This has now been published…

EU Grants to listed companies – picking losers with your cash ( reverse Midas touch)

Published 1419 days ago

All Governments across the globe have an appalling track record when it comes to picking stockmarket losers when it comes to handing out grants and loans. Ask President Obama about Solara? Remember John De Lorean?  And with the EU unable to get its own accounts signed off without qualification you would expect that it would be the worst stock picker of the lot.  You would expect correctly.

Avanti Communications is NOT investment grade material says Evil Knievil

Published 1419 days ago

Bear raider Evil Knievil ( Simon Cawkwell) has been short of Avanti Communications (AVN) a good while and after today’s profits warning he says that he remains short, telling me that “Avanti is simply not investment grade material.” Cawkwell says that Avanti may turn the corner but equally it could disappear altogether. He says that he has no intention of closing his short.

Avanti Communications - analysis ahead of year-end trading update

Published 1427 days ago

Firstly a declaration that I own some shares in this AIM-listed satellite operator as a speculative investment. Shares in Avanti Communications (AVN) performed very strongly in 2009 and 2010 – reaching 735p in December of the latter year. However, they have since disappointed and currently trade at 250p, capitalising the company at just under £280 million.

Lucian Miers goes short Zoltav and comments on Avanti Communications

Published 1431 days ago

I notice that Zoltav Resources (LSE:ZOL), the toy, of Abramovich junior, Arkadiy, has come back from suspension quite a bit higher having announced a reverse takeover of some dodgy sounding oil and gas assets in Russia. The shares at 7p  are to be consolidated on a 1for 20 basis on 4th July to give them a price of 140p. This ought to cause the penny to drop when investors see that the notional price at which the assets were acquired was 70p and that Arkadiy, through his vehicle ARA has agreed to put in money at 70p.  Why pay double the amount that the insiders are paying and will continue to pay in tranches through to next year?

Iofina: After The Rug Was Pulled

Iodine producer Iofina has apparently gone from being more popular than the Hula Hoop to being on a par with the Sinclair C5, at least in share price terms. The issue now is whether the stock can regain previous glories above 250p?

Avanti Communications – still a short and no IMS (It’s Official)

Published 1459 days ago

I welcome the damascene conversion of Tom Winnifrith to the bear case for Avanti Communications (AVN). It has never satisfied me as to its interesting accounting policies and I remain short. And I feel more encouraged by the lack of an Interim Management Statement.

Avanti Communications – Something Not Right (sell)

Published 1462 days ago

I first recommended shares in Avanti Communications (AVN) back at 116p years ago. I was still bullish all the way up to c800p when it launched its first HYLAS satellite since when the shares have headed only one way. They now trade at 279p .I apologise for not selling a long time ago.

AVN, RPO, SXX, QPP, XEL, GKP, CUP, ASC – The Great Conspiracy Revealed

Published 1479 days ago

They do not like it up ‘em. Shares in some of the darlings of the AIM market have taken a bit of a hit of late and some folks, the believers, believe that this is the result of a great conspiracy involving myself, Evil Knievil, Lucian Miers, Zak Mir, Red Evans and others. How about a quick look at the facts.

Buy Avanti Communications (AVN): Above 280p Targets 360p Plus

Published 1509 days ago

To say the least there has been something of a two way pull on the fundamental side as far as Avanti Communication is concerned over the past year, with fans of the satellite broadband providing regarding it as go – go tech stock winner, while its all its detractors point to widened losses for the half year, lowered broker revenue forecasts and cash burn issues.

Avanti Communications Interims – The Company is Delivering, Evil, Lucian and the bears have been shown to be wrong

Published 1567 days ago

Bear raiders Lucian Miers and Evil Knievil are meeting for lunch today. I know, as I was invited but my liver is not up to it. However the main course should be humble pie. The bears predicted that Avanti would miss its targets at the interim stage. Moreover the results demonstrate very clearly that it is already more than two thirds of the way to hitting 2014 (not a misprint) numbers and that it continues to win business. The shares are a buy at 265p and could move sharply as the bears are squeezed. I sense that margin calls could well be served up at Evil towers today in time for pudding.

Avanti Communications – A Day to Buy as Results Go Down Badly

Published 1692 days ago

Shares in AIM listed satellite operator Avanti Communications (AVN) have slumped today by 62.75p to 286p after results for the year to June 30th 2012 were announced and were received poorly. Adding to Avanti’s misery bear raider Evil Knievil announced that he had gone short at 295p. He is wrong and this is a buying opportunity. I say this as someone who tipped the shares first at 116p in August 2004 and who has continually rated them as a buy at anything up to an all time high of almost £8. I still believe that the shares will in due course move sharply higher and my target price is £16.81. Here is why.
