Bellzone Mining equity is all but worthless - do you know about the China crooks?

Published 3 days ago

Bellzone Mining (BZM) was floated by Canaccord in 2010 (on April Fool’s day as it happens). It raised £30 million at 35p to fund the development of an iron ore project in Guinea, West Africa, the baby of Aussie entrepreneur Nikolajs Zuks, valuing the company at £184 million. Seven years on the company is still in the feasibility stage, having spent $336 million of shareholders’ money and, with the share count having more than tripled, the market cap is £33 million.

Fusionex: Sell while It’s still possible but I've bought Petrofac

More Red Flags at BNN Technology

Two ways to play Avanti Coms insanity as the shares head for zero

Poster child for the dogs on AIM heading for zero is Avanti Communications (AVN) which plumbed new lows this week with a dreadful H1 statement. It’s Better to Travel than Arrive and Premier Oil has Arrived

Published 137 days ago

Avocet is a testament to the powers of denial of mug punters - its a short

I raised questions over the veracity of either the Admission Document or the Companies House filings (HERE) of disgraced former Igas boss Andrew "piggy" Austin's new vehicle, RockRose Energy (RRE) with its Standard Listing on the main board of the London Stock Exchange. Now it seems that there are one or two corrections being processed by Companies House.

The Brilliant John Hempton on Alibaba numbers that do not add up

Published 538 days ago

John Hempton of Bronte capital in Oz, was a star of the recent Gold & Bears show and is right now King of the Bears - you can see his performance HERE. I started looking at Alibaba (US:BABA) as a cracking short yesterday HERE but now bring you a Hempton article from a couple of months ago which is absolutely brilliant. Read this and then tell me if you believe a word that Alibaba claims. It is a slam dunk short. Over to the King of the Bears..

Avanti Communications in 2016 - Drinking in Last Chance Saloon.

I have long been a critic of Avanti Communications (AVN) and although the shares have performed badly lately they could and should be trading a lot lower.

Tungsten - Meet the New Boss. Same as the Old Boss. Don’t Get Fooled Again.

Published 556 days ago

Tungsten (TUNG) announced its half year results to October on Wednesday and followed it up with an analyst call, which did nothing to demonstrate that there is a viable business there.

Poundland – as predicted a results shocker

Published 587 days ago

Back in September I confessed to the ShareProphets readers that I had been making some semi-regular visits to my local 99p Store.  I also called a sell/avoid/short on Poundland (PLND) shares and it is the latter which has to interest us today following a litany of disasters in the company’s interim results statement today.

My top ten shorts for Christmas – Tom Winnifrith

Circumstances change, share prices change and so ones evaluation of what is in sight as a good short always changes. Challenged by a reader I serve up my ten top shorts/sells for Christmas, with one caveat.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast 20 October - Fireworks at Globo Ahoy!

Published 617 days ago

Globo (GBO) is now the No 1 short on AIM and I explain why. Then I take a listener request - this is one off favour - and look at Messaging International (MES). Then onto LGO Energy (LGO) where I explain why the Bulletin Board morons are wrong and my target price is either 0p or 0.2p. UK Oil & Gas (UKOG) is heading down to 0.75p and I explain why. Rurelec (RUR) could well be a zero but is certainly a slam dunk sell. And then it is back to preparing my lecture for the lefty sociology students of the Mrs tomorrow "Capitalism makes the world a better place for all (Greed is Good)"

Telit Communications – “trading statement” further suggests the value of our AIM short positions monitoring

Published 624 days ago

Following trading update disappointment from AIM-listed Regenersis plc a few months ago, I noted that it suggested the value of checking our such short positions updates – with there continuously having been a disclosed short position in Regenersis since November. Since August there has been such a position in Telit (TCM) and now…

BREAKING: Paragon Diamonds - placement coming, but for how much?

Published 637 days ago

I've had it double sourced this afternoon that Paragon Diamonds (PRG) is arranging a placing. The company released its interim numbers this morning and confirmed its intention to buy the Mothae Kimberlite mine from Lucara Diamond Corporation. It is my understanding that the company will need £8million to finalise this deal, which it will not be able to cover fully through debt financing. There is also the small matter of the £500,000 loan Paragon needs to repay in the next two weeks as well as the money it needs to keep the PLC lights on.

After the Car Wash, the Tsunami - short contractors who had business with Petrobas

Published 643 days ago

Brazil is cleaning up its act, the national oil company, Petrobras, and its contractors are being dragged through a car wash. The country, the company and the industry will be better for it but in the process famous and respected companies will become casualties; some have already suffered, but investors will want to know how to predict who will be next in the firing line. Skip to the last paragraph if that is all you want to know.

Globo – look at the small print: I stay short

Published 651 days ago

Monday’s statement from Globo (GBO) was clearly designed to put the best possible gloss on the fact that its attempt, signalled in June, to raise $180 million in the junk bond market is foundering.

APR Energy - look at the small print: I stay short

It is always worth looking at the small print, the notes at the back of an annual report. The following gem appears in the (unaudited) interim statement prepared by APR Energy’s (APR) auditors, Deloitte, stating that:

Lonmin Offers a High Risk Recovery Play with Large Upside

Published 662 days ago

A month or so ago I wrote a piece suggesting that people avoided Lonmin (LMI) at a share price of 62p. Although it looked cheap at that price I could see further downside based on funds selling prior to the South African platinum miner’s exit from the FTSE250 in the quarterly review.

A tale of two updates: Avanti and Tungsten

Published 771 days ago

Both Avanti Communications (AVN) and Tungsten Corporation (TUNG) had trading updates last week. The knee jerk response to both was to mark the shares higher before slamming into reverse, in the case of Tungsten within minutes and with brutal consequences, whereas Avanti has experienced a gentle drift to just below the pre update level of 230p.

New World Oil and Gas – who is regulating this Omnishambles?

Published 786 days ago

I’ll say from the start here that I have no position at all in New World Oil and Gas (NEW). That is just as well, I suppose, because viewing this from the sidelines is going to be a hoot. But it does ask a few questions of AIM Regulation (the gargantuan nature of this Orwellian misnomer is all too apparent these days), and the Nomad to New World – that fine upstanding firm of Beaumont Cornish.

Globo plc – 2014 results, cash flow & balance sheet concerns intensify

Published 789 days ago

Shares in “international provider of enterprise mobility management, mobile solutions and software as a service”, Globo plc (GBO) gained 9% yesterday to 52.5p on the back of a results announcement emphasising that for 2014 “we have produced a strong financial performance”. Just Eat; beware the insider share sales!

Published 810 days ago

A bunting of red warning flags is now billowing gently over the share price of Just Eat (JE.). I first identified this as a candidate to watch for an opportunity to short at the start of last December. Unfortunately I then chose shorting Just Eat as one of my tips for 2015. That decision is going to come back and bite me, but now that Just Eat is trading at 435p (last seen), and after the flurry of recent insider selling, it is time to revisit what could be a cracking trade.

Monitise plc – review following research update on interims and capital markets day

Published 854 days ago

Interim financials last week from Monitise plc (MONI) were far from impressive – though the company emphasising that this “reflects a period of transition, with the group moving away from large upfront licence revenue or engaging in new large scale development and integration led projects, but not yet benefiting from the release of the new platform and associated subscription revenue”. The following reviews a research update post the interim results and a following ‘Capital Markets Day’…

Monitise plc - "Trading Update" & "Strategic Review", aka 'Revenue Warning' & 'Up For Sale'

Published 887 days ago

Again suggesting the potential value of short position data such as HERE, shares in Monitise plc (MONI) currently trade at 13.375p - having reached 80p less than a year ago. This is on the back of an announcement of revenue for the first half of its year to 30th June 2015 of £42.4 million (H1 2014: £46.5 million), that “FY 2015 revenue is expected to be between £90-100m (FY 2014: £95.1m) compared with previous guidance of at least 25% growth” and that the company is commencing a review of its options “in light of recent share-price weakness, shareholder feedback and industry developments”. Igas shares now 30.5p – FFS Piggy Austin: what about the margin call

Published 888 days ago

A year and five days ago Andrew “Piggy” Austin  announced he was buying shares in Igas (IGAS) at 135p sending the stock up to 147p. Sadly that was untrue he made a net £7 million from selling/loaning shares to dodgy Equities First Holdings LLC at 93p. Such dodgy deals always have a level at which there is a margin call. FFS the shares are now just 30.5p

Avanti Communications – worth a short ahead of February 5th results

Published 890 days ago

Lucian Miers had Avanti (AVN) down as one of his two top shorts for 2015 and so far it is looking a cracking short. Results are looming on February 5th.

So, folks SIGN UP HERE & PLACE YOUR BETS AT ONCE.

Ben Turney’s share tip for 2015 - sell Just Eat @ 319p

Published 911 days ago

I first covered Just Eat (JE.) at the start of December. Three of the company’s founding investors had just sold £139million worth of their holdings, through a discounted placement. This looked like a not so tacit admission that they saw limited further upside for the stock and were very keen to reduce their exposure.

And now at 32p the Quindell Bulletin Board Moron of the day (DMajor) thinks smearing me helps

Published 925 days ago

Quenron (QPP) shares are now down to 32p. 0p or suspension or both looms and is coming soon. Even the dumbest fuck in the universe must understand that. But no, Tom Dobell at M&G and the posters on the LSE Asylum just reckon it is corporate governance or in the case of the latter it is all down to me. Today’s moron DMajor explains Quenron’s share price collapse by posting six sentences containing three howling spelling mistakes or grammatical errors and NINE lies about me.

BearCast from Tom Winnifrith - why IGAS is a screaming short & the shale bubble

Published 942 days ago

There are three reasons why IGAS (IGAS) shares are a screaming short at 56p. One is that the shale bubble is set to burst. Greed will turn to revulsion and any company that has used the word shale in release after release to ramp its shares in the good times will now suffer the backlash. The second is Andrew Austin, the CEO. He is still not telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth on his Equities First Holdings LLC dodgy share trades. That makes the stock uninvestable until he fesses up and quits. It is only a matter of time. The third...

Short Concha

Published 1048 days ago

As it is increasingly difficult to short stock in the real pond life on AIM, I tend to steer clear of looking at these companies unless some stock becomes available. I was told about Concha (CHA) a few months ago and when a bit of borrow came up the other day I had a quick look at it to see if it was really was that bad.

Sell and Short Gulf Keystone at 68.25p

Published 1055 days ago

On a financial level I have always been bearish on Gulf Keystone (GKP) long arguing that the shares were really only worth 30-50p – something that has not endeared me to the Bulletin Board Morons. Well I guess I was right. But what has changed to make this an outright slam dunk short sell? Answer: ISIS.

Paul Scott’s Red Flag Spreadsheet

Published 1065 days ago

This is a truly brilliant spreadsheet from Paul Scott, the person I rate as the UK’s top share blogger and an all-round nice guy to boot.  In saying all round this is not a reference to his figure although….  Paul does not write for this site and is fiercely independent in his views but he has graciously allowed me to publish this anyway. And so especially for followers of Quindell (QPP), Globo (GBO), Outsourcery (OUT) and a good few others…

Mothercare – how low will it fall?

Mothercare (MTC) shares are down by 10% to 234p today as Destiny Maternity formally pulled out of a bid approach. Quelle frigging surprise! The only question is how low the stock will fall? Ask the experts.

Exercise caution with Range Resource

Published 1076 days ago

Range Resources (RRL) has seen a dramatic turn-around recently, but now needs to start delivering. As recently as mid-April it was sat at an all-time low of just 0.61p and there were fears for its future as it struggled to re-pay debts that were due. Then along came a financing deal with Abraham Limited which cleared pretty much all of the money owed and triggered a change in sentiment.

Sell Leni Gas & Oil, by Doc Holliday

Published 1113 days ago

I see my old sparring partner ''David'' Leni Gas & Oil (LGO) has released yet another RNS, which means not only are we at a baker’s dozen plus in little over a month now (!!!), but also that each one creates less and less impact. A lot of the news is surely already priced in and is even, arguably, overpriced into today’s share price.

Standard Chartered: counter trend rally is nearing an end

Published 1125 days ago

Standard Chartered (STAN) was one of the best performing financial stocks until the debt bubble burst in 2007. While the stock has recovered relatively well from the financial meltdown, it has yet to make a new high above the December 2007 high [1975p]. The stock is still in a bear market and a possible shorting opportunity could be brewing.

Gulf Keystone. Back on the bear tack

Is the Baltic Dry Index, at 987, warning you to sell in May?

Published 1142 days ago

It’s been too long since I last looked at the Baltic Dry Index. This morning I almost wish I hadn’t. According to the latest reading of the Baltic Dry, which tracks 23 of the world’s busiest shipping lanes, it stands at 987, having slumped in early April. This does not bode at all well for the general economic outlook and is particularly unwelcome news for mining stocks.

Avanti Quarterlies: When is the next fund raise & what is the real debt? Matt Earl kicks off
