It is a 12 O’clock kick off in West Smithfield for the AGM of the London Stock Exchange and myself, Lucian Miers and various co-conspirators will be there to lick up a fuss about the joke that is regulation of the AIM Casino. We thought this was a peasant’s revolt but in his morning email to clients, top broker Andrew Monk, a respected member of the establishment has come out in our support! Well I never. Mr Monk ( who will not now be getting a knighthood) writes:

What a pity the FCA isn’t a listed company .
All those MP’s and civil servants who are supposed to be providing regulation are cossetted so don’t have to use the products they are supposed to be regulation .
Imagine how good Nest would have been if the civil servants who devised it knew they were going to be auto enrolled in it themselves .

I have waited a while now to fess up that on one issue TW has been wrong.
Democracy needs mobility, to ensure that democracy has doors. It is essential that no-one can lock these doors, even one locked and democracy fails.
To answer who keeps these doors unlocked you need to answer the questions. Who regulates the regulators, officiates the officials, watchers the watchers..There is only one group who can do that, the worlds free press, coming from any class, the top class to the gutter class, from the top school to the sink school.
It never was the job of the AIM regulator to keep AIM’s doors unlocked and batter down any that get locked. It’s been Tom Winnifrith and others like him, its been their job along all along.
But, whenever they batter down a door or go about their purpose they will always get crap, that is why they need your support, both in purpose and in mind, as you are going to see today, it isn’t easy.

Something’s afoot. I actually received a phone call today from the FCA to discuss my latest complaint (about nonsense published in MoneyWeek). “We don’t regulate the media,” they said. “Well you bloody well should do,” said I, “because that kind of false/misleading/erroneous writing can lead to a disorderly market.”
“Good point,” said Mr FCA. “I’ll get our team to look into it.”
Probably a late April Fool prank.
