Hello Share Shovers. I’ve always thought that I would vote to stay in Europe when we have our referendum. I fondly believed that, as other European countries are our biggest market, it would be daft to cut loose.

Once the EU, political, media and big business crank up their yes campaign, spread some fear, make a few meaningless non-treaty concessions which will be subsequently overruled enough voters will vote yes which will be a tragedy imho.
EU favours big business as it effectively prices out, by over regulation, smaller competitors. Add to that ability to ship in unlimited cheap labour and ship out profits to cheapest taxing member state and you can understand why they love it. It doesn’t mean it’s good for the UK though or that dealing in multiple jurisdiction would be that difficult, as they already do so, for big business if they had to.
Glad to hear that you’ve gone over to the dark-side Malcolm.. we can always hope that enough voters see the light and reject this anti-democratic, over regulated, anti-competitive pile of crap called the EU :)

Yep ……….. I am with the OUT brigade . I can remember having a sense of gloom and despondency the day Ted Heath took us in and not really knowing why I felt like that , being so young at the time . Now I know why ,and that intuitive feeling never really went away . Why bother having a King and Queen and their legal system , a government and their law making authority , to duplicate, replicate and dilute that again in Brussels? Its bonkers .

Rest of the nonsense coming out of the EU – NO
Inability to make a decision, horse trading over everything, lack of political accountability, complete paralysis, catastrophic economic dominance by Germany and Political Dominance by Germany/France, wishywashy stances on Justice (terrorists cannot be deported because of free speech/alcoholism etc), Immigration, International affairs etc etc
The EU is a self serving function that rides rough shod over grass roots opinions and imposes the ‘greater good’ vision held by it’s ‘leaders’.

Its great news that your joining the ranks of us very ordinary Brits, whom have had enough of the faceless bureaucratic monster of the present day EU.
In my opinion, not one single job would be lost by leaving the EU asylum. In view of the massive trading surpluses the EU enjoys selling to Britain they would be committing economic suicide were they ever to be tempted into some kind of revenge/punishment act for the UK leaving the nut house.
Like Norway and Iceland, we would simply negotiate a free trade agreement, which was the original premise of joining in the first place. At no time have the British people voted for European Political Union. Hopefully we never shall……. its time to walk away with thanks but NO, thanks!

It is so disheartening and frustrating to see British people, whom I once deemed as very intelligent and reasonable, to insist stubbornly and mindlessly on this crusade against the European Union and especially on this suicidal race to exit it.
The amount of delirious drivel about the little or no consequences to leaving the Union, be they economical, political or social, as well as the pure hatred for something that was brought about to stop centuries of wars across Europe and allow social and economic progress within it, is just so much that I just can’t be bothered to waste more time trying to debate with stubborn, narrow little minds stuck in the Victorian era.
What is interesting is that no other country in Europe is so anti Europe as the UK, but there again modern-day Britain doesn’t have many friends anyway, and I truly believe this place is beginning to feel like nazi Germany in the early 30’s.
As for the article and some of the comments, the pity for “how Greece has been treated” is bewildering, when we all know that Greece is the main party responsible for the situation. If the Troika had blindly given yet more money, you would be in uproar about tax payers’ money being frittered away by senseless politicians; if Greece refuses proposals and walks out of negotiations, you still blame selfish and mindless EU politicians. Just any excuse to bash the EU…
Normally at this point I would actually be quite happy to see Britain getting the fuck out, they have been a right pain in the backside for far too long, have often been a stumbling block, always asked for opt-outs and me-nots, have hardly ever been constructive, and they have never been very friendly either. Unfortunately I still live in this country and I really regret being here at such miserable times.
The final comment that “our customers in Europe will not shun us if we leave” is another infantile, delirious expectation that Europeans are just a bunch of 250 million idiots with no brains and no memory: I for one will spit on anything British should the UK leave Europe, also after the hatred and xenofobia I have experienced here in these last few years.
You can bet your you know what that the other European countries will slam the door behind you the moment you walk out, and you can just dream about post-exit agreements.

Many of us Brits who wish to leave the EU are not narrow minded little Victorians but rather those of us who love liberty and democracy and are sick and tired of seeing a bunch of unelected bureaucrats riding rough shod over the rights of Nation States in the name of protecting those of us too dumb to understand their enlightened dream of a superior World in which they know best.
I apologise if this point of view is too narrow minded and unenlightened for you, but seeing what Juncker and his mates in Brussels did to Cyprus in 2013 really was the last straw for me.

Perhaps your hatred of Britain will extend to spitting on the graves of people like my uncle? He gave his life in fighting for a Europe free of Fascism. His reward was stepping on a landmine in Libya in 1943……..more fool him, eh?
To equate our country with Nazi Germany deserves utter condemnation and causes great offence, especially to folk that lost loved ones fighting for a free and democratic Europe.
No country has given so much…… be it measured with the lives of its young people or the wealth of its treasury in fighting Dictatorship within Europe for the last 350 years……… as the United Kingdom.
Yep, we are all so full of hatred and xenophobia that must explain why hundreds of thousands of folk throughout the world are trying to settle in our nation.
Still, when you pack up and leave our shores for your European Utopia it will make room for somebody that actually wants to settle here and maybe appreciates the great sacrifices Britain has made in securing that Utopia for you!

AT perhaps we have more confidence in our ability to govern ourselves, trade globally and with Europe than you do. EU membership is a handicap not a benefit for those who believe in open markets and competition.
The last retort of the desperate pro-EUer is the claim that it has stopped war. There is no evidence of that, democratic nations with open trade agreements seldom go to war with each other. What does cause wars is bundling peoples together in an artificial state ~ you just have to look at all the conflicts around the world to see evidence of that or closer to home the now naked hatred between some Greeks and Germans. Where else in the world would democratic sovereign nations decide to swap that for an unelected 28-person executive?
If you think the UK is so shit and the EU so wonderful why are you here? The UK has never been anti-Europe but you’re so thick you don’t understand the difference between Europe & EU. You’re clearly in favour of the European dream of a USofE, or perhaps more accurately a USSR lookalike or 4th Reich so why don’t you take your own advice and fuck off to find your utopia ~ North Korea might be a good place to start :)
Given the straight choice of USofE or UK an overwhelming majority would vote for the latter so you’d better hope that the EU and British politicians continue to lie to the British people and convinces enough of them that ever closer union really means ever looser union.

Its the Troika who are behaving like Nazis. The EU bureaucrats should have asked Greece to increase pension age and reform, etc, as a condition of joining the EU – not after! They should have done so with the Eastern European countries too. They too will crash out of EU again sooner or later. That is if the Eurozone is not killed off first, which it could be before the UK referendum. Fifteen years ago many UK politicians wanted us to join the Euro and said Britain would suffer if we didn’t. Look who is laughing now. We do not have a currency peg to the Euro. We can pull out but keep same free trade agreements. We import more from EU than we sell them. They will not cut off ties to us. Ignore the scaremongering and kick the power hungry control freaked EU bureaucrats in the balls.

I can see both sides of the argument (but veer towards exiting – and this veering has grown stronger in the last few years), but your assertion is disgusting (and no – I wasn’t around in the 30s but I don’t need to have been).
And why is the comment that “our customers in Europe will not shun us if we leave” infantile?! Perhaps it’s not a question to ask one who went on to say “I for one will spit on anything British should the UK leave Europe”! Oh ‘diddums’ – will this be after you’ve thrown your toys from the pram?
I’ll be the first to ask it (unless another poster has beaten me to it): why don’t you simply fuck off? Is it because the pay is better here (and give real thought to the implications of answering yes to that)?
