The Ulster Herald reports that local politicians, including Sinn Fein and the Greens, will now “vigorously oppose” Dalradian’s plans for a gold processing plant at its large Curraghinalt gold project in Northern Ireland, owing to its proposed used of cyanide. A question has been put to the Minister of the Environment by the West Tyrone MLA and will be discussed in the Stormont assembly on Monday.

Cant see what all the fuss is about …….its only cyanide . Every single car spray shop thats any good use 2 Pack (2k) paints which give off cyanide when curing . No one wants to stop car body shop work happening all over Ireland .
Before you all get over excited …….. paint sprayers wear helmets with a force feed air supply , the fumes are extracted via a vent in the booth roof and treated prior to venting to atmosphere. Just dont try spraying 2K paint in your own home garage unless you want to die in about six months from lung cell death ……….die safely out there .

Cyanide is used in the electroplating industry. The waste can be treated by adding sodium hypochlorite (bleach) to form sodium chloride (common salt) and sodium bicarbonate. Ozone treatment will also do the trick.
