All my family bar step sister Flea work in the public sector and so today at a great family gathering I shall have to listen to folks on 38 hour weeks earning silly salaries bleat on about how stressed they all are and about the wicked Tories. Saints preserve me, it will be grim. Away from discussing the horror that awaits me I look at the toxic nature of debt, market crashes and investor denial.

Could you explain at some point why Avanti’s bonds, which fall due in 2019, mean they are going bust in 2016. They may well go bust in 2019 or even 2018, which is their predicted cash low point. However there is currently a lot of spare capacity on the tin cans already launched and if that does get taken up with decent long term contracts, then they would be in a much better position to repay some of the bonds in 2019 and be a lower risk to refinance the rest. Time will tell which it will be, but as far as I can see Avanti has time. They can also delay the launch of further tin cans if they are not getting the take up they expect on the existing ones.

I was interested in your comments on UK Doctors in various pieces . I have three in the family , a Consultant , a GP and a Junior . They have always seemed to be very well paid indeed and have a different concept of hard work to the rest of us . To me hard work is physical labour , getting filthy dirty and long hours or a combination of the three . From from what I have observed of the last 40 years the junior Doctors lot has improved a lot due to a large reduction in hours ( which slows up experience gathering ) compared to the 70 – 80,s era . Consultants use their brain a lot and very little else . Life for them consists largely of the next golf match where they must nearly , but not quite, beat the boss if they wish to enhance their status and career . They are indeed grossly overpaid . So much so that a Consultant team I am aware of who, a few years back, were faced with the decision of making a team mate redundant due to budget cuts (following a pay rise) or putting all the team on a four day week for the same money as per 5 day week pre pay rise , opted for the latter . Thus the NHS pay rise simply resulted in a whole consultant team earning exactly the same as prior the payrise but having to only work four days a week for it . Great .
The hardest working of the three seemed to be the GP ;- Long hours , tons of paper work and many out of hours call outs to scary tower blocks late at night in deprived inner city estates . Gps in rich affluent areas have it easy but a GP in poor areas of city or suburbs have a mare of a job with a constant stream of repeating deprivation ailments and mental health issues . I would not want their job for anything . The hospital doc deffo has a cushy number by comparison . Fantastic pensions the lot of them ………. in short compared to the average Joe regarding lifetime job security , pay ,pensions and hours …….. They dont know they are born and should man up !
