Paul Scott complains about about homophobia on ShareProphets

Oh dear, it seems that Britain's top share blogger is on the warpath again and has made public a letter of complaint about the language used on this website accusing us, I think, of homophobia.

Comments

  1. Arselicker? Or, given the context, perhaps not.

  2. turbograndad

    Blowing the pink trombone, perhaps.

  3. Tom,

As Paul Scott once said about you, you are a maverick and we all love you for it. But I too think you may have overstepped the mark using cocksucking references and alike regarding Lenigas and co. This is a derogatory term mainly aimed at homosexuals, so if you have friends that are and it causes them offence why continue to use it?

I am a big fan of Shareprophets, but this Lenigas thing has just got stupid IMO.You are right on many occasions but also perhaps need to accept when you are wrong on occasions like this language issue you take it with grace rather than starting a spat.

  4. I knew it was a bad idea getting sucked (haha) into this silly discusion. But using “cocksucker” as a clearly abusive term, is obviously wrong Tom. Stop it please.

If you swap a racist term for cocksucker, then I think we would all be horrified.

    Stop it please.

  5. knob jockey

  6. it’s all good publicity for you both, is it not, you should be cock-a-hoop!

  7. Colin malcolm

Can we all get passed this political correciveness, we’re going run out of words soon.
Then what a boring world we would live in.

  8. Filthy Lucre

Paul He won’t stop. He is our very own ‘The Donald’ and like Trump believes
that he becomes stronger the more outrageously he behaves. But both of these men
have problems. Hilary will now walk the US election, and watching Tom is like watching
a car crash in slow motion.

  9. MrContrarian

“You need to control your anger my friend.”
    LOL!
    Physician heal thyself.

  10. nicky numb nuts

    You are such a moron!

  11. Think you are all taking this a bit too seriously. I call lads in work Cocksuckers all the time and have never even considered the Gay angle. It simply means a Creep. Can be used interchangeably with terms like “Suck-Hole” and “Arse Licker”. HTH

  12. Nigel Somerville

Perhaps the sentiment behind “PR Genius” could again be put to good work here, with the term “fine upstanding citizen”?

  13. Bob the Brush

There is no remark that you can make, with the aim of being offensive, that will not be taken as offensive by someone other than the target. this is the nature of being offensive and is just something that has to be dealt with.

Paul Scot by suggesting it is offensive against gay men you are heavily discriminating against Women, many of whom are also cocksuckers. so saying that this is homophobic in nature as an insult is like saying the term ‘fatty’ is offensive against Scottish folk. yes, many of them are fat but they are not the only ones.

You are trying a little too hard to take offence methinks.

P.S. I per-emptively apologise to all fat and Scottish people in general. I am a little of both so I felt comfortable using it as an example.

  14. Tom,

I think you should stop using the words “scr*w*d” and “f*ck*d” as pejorative terms. This is sooo heterophobic. Some of my friends very much enjoy scr*w*ng and f*ck*ng and that doesn’t make them in any way bad people. With people like you around, no wonder the birth rate is going down.

I know you will defend yourself by claiming that you swear on an equal opportunity basis, and are just as likely to use a term like “c*cks*ck*r”, but frankly that is just not good enough.

I must insist that in future you restrict yourself to the gender-neutral term “*rs*-l*ck*r”. Thankfully we are equal in that respect at least, that both men and women are equally endowed by their Creator with both tongues and *rs*s. This can therefore give offence to no-one.

    Solomon

    Cooker of socks?

  16. Normal person

Paul Scott’s comment makes disturbing and disgusting reading. Comments like that are freely accessible to young children which is appauling. If you are a homosexual calling someone phobic, please get over it, and stop whinging, promoting and screaming about your rights. It’s really boring. Homosexuals are not being persecuted for being gay. Personally, I find homosexual activity really disgusting to think about or to see, so why not do what most people do with their sex lives and keep it private? Honestly, it is exhausting to have this endless propaganda about this subject shoved down our throats daily. It is abuse. Since you are allowed to do what you like, celebrate amongst yourselves, and enjoy what you do but don’t expect us all to agree all your points, and please stop using the phobic card every time there is a tease or comment, it suggests you want to force people into line with PC values. Other people have traditional values and I would kindly ask people like Paul Scott or any other flamboyant over indulged celebrity with a motor mouth to respect that.

  17. J P Spaghetti

“I find homosexual activity really disgusting”

So do I. And so does every heterosexual male. Oh yes they do – they must, even though they may try to suppress their disgust or confine it to the subconscious. If not – because of the imperative nature of male sexuality – they’d engage in it too given the opportunity.

However, (MAJOR REDEEMING QUALIFICATION TO FOLLOW, and – yes – some of my best friends…), disgust at the practice need not imply disgust at the practitioner. By way of an example I’ve used before, I also find the act of eating sprouts disgusting. It would be absurd and abhorrent, though, to consider those who enjoy eating sprouts disgusting, or to wish to deny or restrict their rights as individuals because of this or – worse – even impose punitive measures in respect of it.

Playing the PC ‘ist’/‘ism’ card does indeed get tiresome and the point about almost exhibitionist sexuality (as with those irritating tossers – heteros too – who’ll wait for someone to be in their vicinity before snogging in public) does seem fair and valid to me, but I’m not sure those who posted their concerns about homophobia here were actually being serious. In any event, the expression “ramming it down my throat” would seem misplaced given the context of this article.

  18. can we just talk about something else?

  19. J P Spaghetti

“I am glad homosexuals can get married. I am glad homosexuals look after and adopt children.”

Re. getting married, I’m superficially against it because marriage was defined for men and women. There – that’s it. Isn’t it beautiful in its uncomplicated simplicity? Could almost be the sentiment of a benighted country bumpkin, but it’s actually quite profound (but you need to think it through fully to realise it). I’m all for civil partnerships and I think I’m completely against any form of discrimination of legal standing, but all this hot air that was spouted by those demanding that the state sanction an institution that was never conceived (no pun intended) with them in mind (one becomes a Mrs, for instance) seems to resemble the tantrum of a spoilt brat who wants everything his or her way. I know gay people who agree. To this end, it also seems to undermine the laudable efforts and achievements of those who campaigned for true gay rights. In a similar vein, I don’t think I – as a man – should be able to join the Women’s Institute. And I’m not anti-man at all. I don’t think I should be able to join the Guild of Cornishmen (assuming said outfit exists, though I suspect not) as I’m not Cornish. Though I’ve nothing against those who are and think they should have equal legal status to the rest of us.

Re. children, given the choice, I’d rather they be raised by a male and a female. Greater diversity and role models of each sex, you see. I don’t think I’d necessarily have an issue with a homosexual man raising a child in partnership with a lesbian woman (a platonic one, I suppose, by definition), though. One representative role model of each sex must surely trump two of only one, all else being equal. That qualification is important and somewhat obvious but was included following your sadly predictable raising of the issue of abuse (surely you weren’t implying that members of the clergy responsible for such despicable acts were all hetero?!).

Finally, re. being proud (or for that matter ashamed) about one’s sexuality…hmm – fraught with problems that. One can only meaningfully take pride in (or for that matter feel shame about) that in which one had a hand. So it’s a nonsense to talk of being proud to be British, for instance, if this was purely through an accident of birth. Perhaps not if one had to overcome all manner of adversity to reach these shores and apply successfully for citizenship. Talk of being proud of being homosexual is tantamount, then, to asserting it was the choice of the individual concerned to be so. That’s where contradiction starts to creep in, and to talk of being proud of not being ashamed would be getting a bit silly (reminiscent of a Life of Brian sketch). By all means be glad to be gay, as a different Tom once crooned. Believe me, I can see the attraction and have considered whether one could be hypnotised to be so.

Those parades are often bloody annoying per se, though.

  20. Caca do touro

How about throat lubricator i expect that one would go down nicely!!!!

  21. Drunken Sailor

I think everyone is missing the point that cock sucking is not a purely homosexual activity. Many Heterosexual women suck cocks, but for some reason there seems to be an unsaid part of their marriage vows where they promise to no longer do it (unless you are really lucky on your birthday).

  22. Since turning into an adult, all of my ex-girlfriends have been cocksuckers, I didn’t realise that made them homosexual..
