How British Shareholders Will Benefit as the USA Shoots Itself in the Foot

Hello Share Scoopers. There’s been scary talk about the effect of US trade sanctions on British shares. The Chinese are adding fuel to this fire by claiming the tariffs on them will affect the whole world. Well, they will. But in a good way. If the Chinese and other nations which are being targeted by Big Donald cannot buy American goods without their costing a lot more, than they will buy stuff from other places.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Evil makes £25k betting AGAINST England, Telit - the numbers don't stack up

For reasons explained in the podcast my walk up into the mountains is postponed until Saturday. So the suffering is delayed. Don't delay with a donation to Woodlarks HERE. In the bearcast itself I look at Evil Knievil's World Cup gambles and who he is backing in the final, at a potentially horrid spat at Bacanora (BCN) which looks set to get very nasty indeed, into murky share deals at Cabot Energy (CAB) - a massive scandal in the making and in real detail at the Telit (TCM) disposal announced today. The numbers just do not stack up.

HAYD

Haydale – shares sliding, who thinks there’s a placing on the way?

You have been warned (see HERE) that AIM-listed Haydale (HAYD) is a nailed-on certainty for a discounted placing. We also know that the last placing was at a mammoth 32% discount (at 120p!) and the CEO has recently stepped aside following a (lack of) sales warning. Since then, the shares have been a one-way bet southwards, and we reckon a placing at 50p was on the cards.

MYSQ

ShareProphets RNS Translation Service: Mysquar calls a GM

At 4pm yesterday, AIM-listed Mysquar (MYSQ) slipped out and RNS announcing that it was calling a General Meeting. It seems that the board is running short of shareholder authority to wheel out the printing presses to issue more worthless confetti. The ShareProphets RNS translation Service explains all (original in bold)

Sosandar - full year numbers and a cracking trading statement, don’t be a fool and sell

How many companies list on AIM and then provide timely trading statements, upgrade their advisers, get full year numbers out early and beat forecasts? Can you name any? Well here is one: Sosandar (SOS)...

GYG – The Woodford kiss of death must have the banks worried here

I Thought I would follow up on both Steve’s piece and Tom’s Bearcast on yesterday’s debacle at GYG (GYG) as I was disappointed that both my colleagues failed to make the obvious Woodford connection but, more importantly, I wonder if the banks will be taking a close look at this as the 30 June banking covenants must be a tad challenging.

AAU

Ariana Resources – Q2 production smashes expectations, more share price upside

Ariana Resources (AAU) has announced quarter ended 30th June preliminary production results from its Kiziltepe joint venture, including the company’s Managing Director Kerim Sener emphasising “the results of the past quarter are our best to date, outperforming overall quarterly feasibility-study expectations by 92%”

Video: Dr Stephen Powell of Cambridge Cognition presents at UK Investor City evening

The theme of Monday's UK Investor City Show evening was disruptive technologies. That is certainly something Cambridge Cognition (COG) is working on. Nigel Wray is a big shareholders and has increased his stake of late. Watch the video to see why.

Itaconix and Hvivo – All very cosy but……WHAT”S THE POINT?

Just following up on Steve’s piece on Itaconix yesterday (HERE) with a couple of further observations relating to some interesting interactions between Woodford and its partner-in-crime in many of these early stage biotech / tech plays, IP Group, (IPO), but more importantly to ponder why on earth either of them are bothering.

PMP

Portmeirion – “delighted with the positive start to the year”… so why a share price decline?

Previously writing in May on homewares group Portmeirion (PMP), I noted the company looked well set, but retained some caution. Now a half-year trading update…

ZOO

It's Still Zoo Time as I Show Why the Big Dubber is So Favoured by some of the World's Biggest Show Biz Brands

Hello Share Minders. When I first commended Zoo Digital (ZOO) to you in October the share was 63p when it had recently jumped over three months by 300%. Now it’s 149p. So another increase of much more than 100%. But in my view there is scope for even more improvement. I do not have more hard news to back this view, but I have been reviewing why this company is so popular with so many show business brands.

RogueBloggers4Woodlarks in Manchester Slums caption Contest Result

As you may know I showed extreme bravery in meeting Brokerman Dan on his home patch, in the Manchester Slums, last weekend. For that alone you should sponsor me ahead of my 32 mile walk for Woodlarks with Dan on July 28. We are now over 65% of the way to our £20,000 target. If you have not yet donated please do so HERE. The Manchester summit was captured on film as you can see below and I asked you for captions for the photo -  many were supplied.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast- I am sorry but I am just not as clever as Chris "three brains" Bailey

I start  with a bit on my walking schedule. I really will suffer tomorrow so about donating a tenner to Woodlarks as you think of the pain that lies ahead. Support a great cause HERE. In the podcast I look at non food retailers where I take a simple view as I am not as clever as Chris. I look at CyanConnode (CYAN), GYG (GYG) and follow up on Gary's piece on Bellzone (BZM) with a discussion on what constitutes market abuse.

MIN

Minoan – Hillside loan extension (again….)

AIM-listed Greek resort hopeful Minoan (MIN) has announced yet another extension to its loan from Hillside. The terms are largely the same, but a further 1.7 million warrants at 6p are being issued, and the loan is now on demand, with a long-stop date of 31st August. This is in relation to the announcement last week that the sale of its travel and leisure business is on the way. With a long-stop date of 31st August, one might assume that at long last something is going to happen!

GYG

GYG – from confidence “can deliver continued growth” on AIM IPO to trading “significantly weaker than expected” just a year later!

On 5th July 2017 it was “GYG, a market leading superyacht painting, supply and maintenance company, is pleased to announce the commencement… of dealings of its ordinary shares on AIM… Placing price 100p, gross proceeds of the placing £6.9 million… Zeus Capital is acting as the company's nominated adviser and broker”. Now a trading update commencing “trading has been significantly weaker than expected”. Uh oh…

Itaconix – Woodford pick which states it is “a world leader… with break-through economics”, so why the proposed fundraising?

Previously writing on Woodford dog Itaconix (ITX), it was Q1 trading update, ‘More cash please, Neil’ indeed!. Subsequently, the shares have been suspended due to “as a result of the requirement for further funding, the company will not be in a position to publish its annual audited accounts for the year ended 31 December 2017 by 30 June 2018, as required by AIM”. Today results and “Proposed Fundraising” announcements…

IRV

Interserve - £35m contract: whoopiedoo, but it is insignificant

When I first commented last October 15th on fully listed Interserve (IRV), it was sacking its old board and in a financial mess, and the shares were around £1. I said sell – and glory be, the shares sit this morning at about 60p after an RNS telling us of a new £35 million contract. The RNS strikes me as getting any good news out it can.

Video: Steve O'Hara of Optibiotix presents and quizzed at UK Investor City Event Monday

Neither myself or the audience gave Steve O'Hara of Optibiotix (OPTI) an easy ride at Monday's UK Investor event in the City. But he presented well and I note that the chairman has today announced the purchase of £150,000 of shares at 71p. Watch Steve closely and you will see why the chairman is buying and why the shares - which are our largest holding but one we have added to in the past couple of months - are so cheap.

Fake news and a Twitter pump precede Bellzone Mining placing - pure coincidence of course!

Anyone who follows the world of AIM on bulletin boards and Twitter will have noticed a lot of sudden excitement in Bellzone Mining (BZM) yesterday, with the share price rocketing and closing at around 0.9p, but unfortunately some were posting false news. Was that deliberate market abuse?

It's not easy out there retail special: Dunelm, DFS & ASOS

Lots of updates out there in the troubled retail space. Troubled for all the reasons we see, know and read about...but, of course, not completely uninteresting. So time - in the words of the greatest value investor out there - to ‘get greedy whilst others are fearful’?
