I think that Capricorn Energy shareholders are getting a bad deal from this merger with Tullow - Sell

I’ve been a fan of Capricorn Energy (CNE), formerly Cairn, for some time now and my investment there has done pretty well, but I probably won’t be holding for much longer now that it has announced a merger with Tullow Oil (TLW).

Centamin (CEY) has announced a quarterly update including “as planned, Q1 2022 production reflected the successful transition to owner mining in the underground… reiterates its 2022 full-year guidance”, so what of a share price response currently down closer to 90p?

SDX Energy – I warned, now I warn again. It’s a bargepole. SELL

It is some time since I last commented on SDX Energy (SDX), in fact it was over 2 ½ years ago when I last hammered the keyboard to record my views on this company. How time flies when Covid lockdowns stop one going to parties. Regardless, yesterdays RNS really was an ouzo moment when one looks at some of the detail.

Pharos Energy has been terrible but I believe 2022 will be the year that changes - buy

Pharos Energy (PHAR) has been a terrible investment for anyone who has held longer term – including myself – and even more so from the days when it was called Soco International (SIA), but I still believe that it can turn things around.

With oil and gas prices booming, United Oil shares are trading too cheaply despite its issues - buy

Sometimes I look at a company and think its shares are just too cheap at the current market cap and is pretty much being priced to fail, yet in some cases there certainly doesn’t appear to be anything fundamentally wrong that suggests that to be the situation.

Fantastic news for Cairn Energy from India and compensation could finally be received - buy

A few weeks ago I wrote a piece here about Cairn Energy (CNE) shares being too cheap, both in terms of its producing assets and also on the basis of any resolution of its long term battle with the Indian government. Quite a bit has happened since then.

Centamin Interims – All on Track (again….) and a Nice Surprise: BUY

Fully-listed Egyptian Gold-miner Centamin (CEY) has delivered in line Interims this morning – although that is no surprise given that we knew most of the data offered already. What was a pleasant surprise was that the interim dividend, which I had expected at 3 US cents per share, has come in at 4 US cents.

Pharos Energy (PHAR) has been one of the worst stocks that I’ve been invested in – not necessarily in terms of the share price performance, although that has also been awful, but more the way the company has been managed and the amount of money that I’ve seen them waste over the years.

How are my favourite two gold stocks doing?

My favourite two gold stocks are AIM-listed Ariana Resources (AAU) and fully-listed Centamin (CEY). Both operate in far flung fields – Turkey in the former’s case, and Egypt in the latter’s – and both are producing gold. Of course, Ariana is amongst the tiddliest tiddlers and Centamin hasn’t so far to travel before reaching consideration for the FTSE100 (I wish!) so there is the world of difference between the two. But Ariana has been a long-term tip for me, joined by Centamin this Christmas...

I find it hard to understand why SOCO International is so cheap - buy

Sometimes it is hard to fathom why a company with strong fundamentals continues to be unloved by the market, and for me that is very much the case with SOCO International (SIA) at the moment, and has been for some time now. Lately the share price has slipped and is now trading at around the 88p level, and whilst it has bounced around 10% from the recent low of 80p that we saw, it still seems incredibly cheap at a market cap of just over £300 million, especially when you consider the current strength in oil prices.

Walk like an Egyptian & Consider Grabbing A Glittering Interest in this Big Miner - Just in Case

Egyptian Miner Centamin's Shares Have Not Mummified and May Come Alive Now

Hello Share Scuffers. As the world wobbles around on top of a gyrating beachball of economic uncertainty, mostly caused by a roller-coasting oil price, gold seems as good a bet as any. Currencies are nearly all under threat, it seems to me, which leaves gold in a great position. But apart from buying gold bars, which is inconvenient, we must consider investing in gold miners.
