For the past year myself and Gary Newman have repeatedly warned about the crazy valuation of Remote Monitored Systems (RMS), about the director lying – another one exposed today – and about the collapsing face mask bubble. We were met with derision and abuse for numerous online trolls. On a day when our analysis has been wholly vindicated with Remote shares crashing, here are three of those trolls in action.

Hello, Share Crunchers. At our fabulous online share show (which you can still plug into until Christmas) I told Uncle Tom that Shakespeare would be a great armchair tycoon. I was thinking of his ‘To be or not to be’ speech. Hamlet, as you’ll recall, was racked throughout by indecision. It’s the bane of the investor’s life.

My second choice for the traditional Christmas share consideration and selection game has the following merits. It is a share that has performed well over the long term but having underperformed the market this year. It looks attractive on a technical interpretation of the share price chart and is well supported by fundamentals on low estimated measures of value. It is of course, Rolls Royce (RR.) which I last visited in October when the shares were 800p and looking, I thought, particularly bombed out.

Shares in identity technology company GB Group (GBG) currently trade slightly higher today, at 149p, on the back of an AGM update of a “strong start to the financial year” and with the board “confident that GB Group will deliver another year of positive progress”. The following updates my April view – with the shares then at 145p – which concluded that the risk/reward was not then overly appealing for a share purchase.

One of the great strengths of HSBC (HSBA) has always seemed to me the nature and depth of a well rooted banking culture which goes back to beyond the banking crisis that emerged and the end of the first decade of this century. It grew, I have always supposed, out of a conservative management style years ago, which watched capital ratios in a way that was necessary when your operations were on the other side of the world and your operating offices were not somewhere in the City of London.

As a value investor, buying and selling is not about time, it’s about price. This means that while you can appear a trading genius and buy moments before a share rockets, other times it can take weeks, months or years to come good.
