Carclo – “significantly below” expectations profit warning sees CEO ‘resign’… to then become CEO of the “critical” division!

Published 70 days ago

Previously writing on Carclo (CAR), I noted last summer as the shares headed down towards 90p that I’d want to see at least some consistent financial delivery before having confidence here. Today a “Trading Statement” – and shares in this fine-tolerance, injection-moulded plastic parts manufacturer currently down more than 30% on the back of it, at 55p!...

Accrol – “despite… operational improvements and sales price increases”…

Published 73 days ago

In November 2017, I noted on Accrol (ACRL) bailout fundraising… at half of IPO price of only 17 months ago!. That was at 50p per share – but there was still much worse to follow. The shares had recovered from lows to a recent more than 20p – but that was before today a “Trading Update”

TLA Worldwide – when you need a Nomad desperately, ‘who you gonna call?’...

Published 156 days ago

TLA Worldwide (TLA) was last week “pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with SunTrust Bank to provide additional working capital headroom through deferment of principal and interest payments together with the waiver of covenants”. I bet it was as it had previously stated that “as a result of weak trading the group expects net debt for the 2018 full year to be significantly higher than previously anticipated and consequently is likely to breach its existing banking covenants”. Now a “Proposed Nominated Adviser Appointment” announcement…

Quarto – 2017 results include “expects a steady recovery”, but discounted fundraising ahoy?

Book publishing group Quarto (QRT) has announced results for the 2017 calendar year, including that “the group expects a steady recovery with some organic growth in Children's, softer foreign language markets, and continuing remedial action in the Adults portfolio, to drive improved cash generation”. The shares have responded… more than 9% lower towards 150p! Hmmm…

Reach4Entertainment – banking covenants breach… but no need for alarm

Published 518 days ago

Having previously warned of a potential breach of “monitoring covenants” in the third quarter, Reach4Entertainment (R4E) “has now determined that the quarterly monitoring covenants for the third quarter of this year have been breached and has notified PNC”. However…

Interserve – shares falling again today, still a sell

Published 521 days ago

Yesterday revelations on Sky and a company statement made clear that all is not well at Interserve (IRV), for all the positive noises about constructive  discussions with its lenders, Sky revealed that a syndicate of lenders including Royal Bank of Scotland and HSBC had called in Ernst and Young amid fears about the balance sheet. Noting also that the balance sheet is painfully thin, as per its recent interims statement, and the calamitous profit warning last month suggesting that the company had no idea of the eventual magnitude of the provision needed associated with its exit from its energy-from-waste business, as well as questions over current trading and you already have pretty good reasons to get out.

Gulf Marine Services – 3:21pm “Trading Update” announcement. Uh oh…

Published 596 days ago

A 3:21pm (and thus clearly unscheduled) “Trading Update” announcement from Gulf Marine Services (GMS). However, it starts “overall the group is continuing to see good levels of tender activity and is progressing a number of opportunities”. Not as bad as feared then? Er…

Mitie – shares up on “Trading update” announcement. Positive news then? Er…

Published 688 days ago

Shares in Mitie Group (MTO) currently trade circa 4% higher on the day, at around 220p, on the back of a “Trading update” announcement. Good news from this “facilities management, connected workspace and professional services business” then. Er…

Reach4Entertainment - breach of banking covenant update - this is good news

Published 815 days ago

Reach (R4E) flagged up in its FY numbers in May that it would probably breach banking covenants. It argued this was a technical matter of no concern but the shares slumped. We urged you to buy then.

Having slumped to sub 8p, shares in Vislink (VLK) are currently approaching 8% higher, at 8.625p, on the back of a “Pebble Beach Systems Announces Strong Growth” announcement. What’s the detail?

Hornby – after more than two months, meet the new management; same as the old?

Published 1059 days ago

Following the February news that Chief Executive Richard Ames had walked as ‘Trading and Transformation Plan’ uncertainty seemingly talked, Hornby (HRN) is today “pleased to announce” the appointment of a replacement. After more than two months, this is… “current Group Finance Director Steve Cooke”! ...

Hornby – seemingly now reliant on “constructive dialogue with Barclays Bank”, Hmmm…

Published 1087 days ago

Following a dire profit warning last month and the Chief Executive subsequently “stepping down”, an “Update on Banking Covenants and Trading” from hobby products company Hornby (HRN) sees the shares currently 8% higher today. Does this though look justified?…

Hornby – ‘Trading and Transformation Plan’ uncertainty talks as Chief Exec (made to?) walk

Published 1131 days ago

Following an “Update on Trading and Transformation Plan” (AKA dire profit warning) announcement last week, Hornby plc (HRN) has now announced that “Richard Ames is stepping down as Chief Executive and is leaving the business with immediate effect. Roger Canham the current Chairman will move to take over as Executive Chairman and will lead the Group for the foreseeable future. –ends”. Hmmm...

Hornby: profits warning is dire, and it does not know the causes!

Published 1136 days ago

An announcement today from Hornby plc (HRN) is harmlessly enough sounding entitled “Update on Trading and Transformation Plan” and opens with “Hornby Plc, the international hobby products group, is updating shareholders on progress made so far in its turnaround strategy. The group has made significant progress in implementing changes to its business model to modernise”. Good, good. But what’s that? The shares have halved to around 40p. Better read on…
