To taper or not to taper; that is the question? The view from the Hampstead Pond

Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours. I wrote this article myself, and it expresses my own opinions. You know how far we have drifted from the language of Shakespeare when market reports are full of something called the “tapering of quantitative easing”; that is to say, when the US authorities stop buying back its own government debt. We now know from yesterday’s announcement from the US Federal Reserve that there will be no tapering yet a while. Is this a cat and mouse game with the market to make it tire of its bearish preoccupation on tapering?
