If you are have had an issue listening to bearcast via your Apple feed, let me explain why. It is the same reason I got phone calls at 6.43 AM on Saturday and 0.01 AM today. And before any folks suggest that in some way I deserve it, no journalist deserves this harassment and the wife and 5-month-old baby of a journalist never deserve harassment. Surely even the biggest chatroom moron can see that.
The website issues are because ShareProphets faces its biggest ever Denial of Service attack. We have put in place measures to allow the site to keep running, albeit with delays, but it is causing a problem if you download bearcast via an Apple feed. When the DOS attack ends, the problem will go. Pro tem Darren suggests that
“You could try doing this: on the device that you have the Bearcast feed, use a browser to sign into ShareProphets. After you go through the security system that make you wait 5 seconds and choose the pictures, your Bearcasts may begin working again. And of course, you can always listen to the Bearcast on the website itself.”
The scale of this DOS campaign which has now happened twice in the past fortnight is bigger than anything we have faced before. This is not some Supply@ME owning nerd sitting in his underpants in his parent’s basement. This costs serious money and is specifically targeting this website although, overnight, my own website was also under a brief attack as well. But it is the fraud busting not my views on global warming or other matters that has pushed some crooks into action.
And then there is the personal harassment. North Wales Police are investigating the harassment of myself and two other writers by Seth Freedman acting at the instigation of a Zoetic (ZOE) shareholder. But since Mr Freedman’s initial harassment, I have received c 50 calls usually from different numbers appearing to be mobiles in Ontario (but not actually being so) or from a private number. If I answer, the caller is silent. I do not know if this is Mr Freedman or another but it is clearly harassment and it is a crime.
On Saturday, the first call came at 6.43 AM and woke me, the Mrs and the baby. I put the phone on silent as it is now for almost all of the time, so meaning I miss real calls. There were four other calls by 6.51 AM. Today, call 1 came at 0.01AM, two more at 0.02 AM and a final (Private not Ontario) call at 0.03 AM. My phone was on silent so it did not disturb my zzzzzzs or that of anyone else.
The Police have full details of the time of all calls and so could trace the caller by contacting my cell phone provider. I hope they do. C50 phone calls of this nature in the past 8 days does, I suggest, constitute harassment.
So what to do? I ask you to bear with us as we deal with the current attempts to gag us. I hope that the Police pull their finger out. Industrial-scale harassment of journalists in this manner should not be acceptable in a civilised society.
Meanwhile, the entire editorial team here will continue to expose white-collar fraud and lying; to give in and not to do so would be the real crime.
