Thoughts On Thomas Cook & Kier

Published 3 days ago

I suggested selling Thomas Cook (TCG) back in May at 13p and at 5p today the company is still valued at £75 million. Given Friday’s announcement of the inevitable debt for equity swap, which “is not the outcome any of us wanted for our shareholders”, this is still far too high as will become apparent when the details are released...

Berkeley Energia – “Strategy and Management Changes” = CEO resigns. Why?

Prospex announces a maiden profit, but how much cash was actually generated? Red Flag Alert!

Thomas Cook: forget a holiday, time for a takeover?

Published 89 days ago

As I write it is beautiful staycation weather outside which is wonderful news for many but potentially not so good for travel names such as Thomas Cook (TCG) which are focused almost exclusively on sending holidaymakers to foreign climes.  Of course I have spoken about the company before  - and my February call was looking downright shabby, even if there has been a touch of moving away from a Brexit cliff edge (the Halloween postponement) which has aided some of my other travel sector plays such as easyJet (EZJ) over the last week or two.

Trading Updates: Pearson and J D Wetherspoon under the Spotlight

Published 179 days ago

In this week’s article, we review two trading updates; one that took place last week, and one expected next week. Firstly, we take a look back at publisher Pearson (PSON) and review broker and tipster sentiment in the lead up to, and following, its most recent trading update this Wednesday. We then look forward to an expected trading update from J D Wetherspoon (JDW) thisweek. Has tipster broker and sentiment changed in recent months, and what will tipsters be expecting to see in the pub chain’s latest announcement?

KEFI Minerals – shares slightly lower on Tulu Kapi project update, BUT…

Published 196 days ago

KEFI Minerals (KEFI) states it “is pleased to provide” an update on the Tulu Kapi gold project, but then includes that “whilst the Government has provided a number of formal consents, at the date of this update there are a number of others that whilst having been verbally agreed, are still subject to processing formalities and thus the agreed deadlines have been extended to end January 2019”. Reviewing Tipsters’ Top Picks for 2019

Published 196 days ago

The UK economy suffered a tumultuous 2018, and it proved to be a particularly rough year for holders long in UK-listed shares: the FTSE100 suffered its worst year in a decade, while the FTSE All Share slumped 13% over the course of the year. The turbulence we’re experiencing looks set to continue into 2019 as markets struggle with mounting uncertainty. As a result “tipping shares has never felt more hazardous”, but there are potential rewards; Joanne Hart (Daily Mail) notes that “UK shares are widely acknowledged to be undervalued, presenting clear opportunities across the market”. I should point out that Tom Winnifrith and others think Ms Hart is useless and clueless.

Catenae Innovation – full-year results, “commencement of the recovery for the business”

The period saw the commencement of the recovery for the business with the introduction of the new product set and the board are pleased to see that the revised products areas are attracting both interest and revenues”

Wishbone – loan conversion & tiny warrant exercise: more good news - still a buy

BP - a buy for income

Published 269 days ago

Shares in BP (BP.) approached 600p as summer dawned and again earlier this month. They’ve been hit in the recent sell-off though, despite - already offering a hefty dividend - the second quarter results having emphasised “momentum and the strength of our financial frame… we are increasing our dividend for the first time in almost four years. This reflects not just our commitment to growing distributions to shareholders but our confidence in the future”

Versarien - panic as market cap falls to 'only' £200 million

Published 270 days ago

When a share price suffers a setback, often it is the evil cabal of short sellers who are blamed by retail investors. In the case of Versarien (VRS), even CEO Neill Ricketts is at it.

Anglo Asian Mining - a golden buy?

Published 270 days ago

Shares in Anglo Asian Mining (AAZ) had recently risen materially, to approaching 75p. They then though slipped back – but recent news looked to have justified the earlier move and more and with gold now starting to motor thanks to stockmarket and bond market jitters...

Shoe Zone – shares jump on ‘ahead of expectations’ update, but still an income buy

Published 274 days ago

Shoe Zone (SHOE) “now expects to report a full year profit before tax for the year ahead of market expectations and in excess of £11.0m”

Creightons - a penny share buy

Published 275 days ago

Having exceeded 40p in 2017, shares in Creightons (CRL) fell to below 20p early this year following a trading update including that “the group has outsourced supply of some branded products lines. This has impacted upon the profit margins of these lines. Therefore, the board has concluded that the full year profit before tax is likely to be marginally lower than last year”. However, that was because of “demand out-pacing capacities in our factories ahead of planned expansion in manufacturing capacities”...

Shenanigans at First Derivatives Don’t Look Good. Sell

Published 277 days ago

I doubt that there was the slightest sense of embarrassment at last week’s AIM awards (a ghastly sounding knees up for the world’s seediest stock market) when First Derivatives (FDP) picked up two gongs: Best Technology award for the company itself and Entrepreneur of the Year Award for its founder and CEO Brian Conlon. Presumably these awards were decided well before First’s price tanked amid some serious concerns being raised and the organisers, in true AIM style, were too gormless to think on their feet and give them out to a less dodgy enterprise.

Norcros - first-half trading update, looks to remain good value

Published 278 days ago

Bathroom and kitchen products company Norcros (NXR) has updated that “underlying operating profit for the first half is expected to be in line with the board's expectations reflecting a robust performance and continuing to demonstrate the financial resilience of the group” and that it “remains confident… will continue to drive market outperformance and will enable the group to make further progress in line with its expectations for the year to 31 March 2019”

Bowleven – disappointing drill news

Published 336 days ago

One of my two share tips for 2018, AIM-listed Bowleven (BLVN), has updated the market on the first of two appraisal wells: it is bad news. As Waseem Shakoor puts it:  disappointing, but that’s drilling. I had hoped for better, but as AIM-listed UK Oil and Gas (UKOG) and fellow pie-in-the-sky oiler, AIM-listed Frontera Resources (FRR) want to ignore, no matter how loudly you shout about the potential, in the end it is only the drill-bit which matters.

Tip activity in July was the at its highest since April –  coinciding with quarterly trading updates for many firms –  representing an increase of 81% on the number of tips tracked during the same period last year. This surge in tips was mainly driven by brokers, with tipster activity remaining in line with previous months.

Midas can you please advise your poor readers to sell Optibiotix every day?

Published 354 days ago

Amazed to find that one of her share tips had actually gone up, Jo Hart of the Midas column In the mail on Sunday  advised the poor saps who follow her to top slice or sell Optibiotix (OPTI) on Sunday. Just as a buy note from Ms Hart is seen by most folks as a sure sign that a PR puff campaign is underway and that you should sell at once, the Midas sell stance seems to have pushed the shares ever higher as the chart below demonstrates. Yes £1 hit again, another case of ouzo Cynical Bear needs to send me. I discussed why I’d not be selling at this price as I expect fireworks soon HERE. Meanwhile…

Berkeley Energia - a buy

Published 428 days ago

A Buy at a 20p offer price share tip in September 2015, the gain on shares in Berkeley Energia (BKY) was banked at a 56p bid price in October 2016 on a 20% one day rise thanks to a newspaper tip. At that point we noted how we could see how, on a fundamental basis, the shares are worth 100p+ looking at the numbers thrown off by the definitive feasibility study and that we may re-enter if the shares come back allowing us to buy with a margin of error. The company has since made significant progress, but the shares not and so…

LPA Group - a buy

Published 430 days ago

In January LPA Group (LPA) announced record results and in March updated that this year also “should present us with an excellent result. However, despite already being on a modest rating, the shares are down from 178.5p in February to a current 155p offer price and so…

Purplebricks & Ticking Timebombs

Published 432 days ago

At last month’s UK Investor Show I grumbled about the difficulties of being short in the current fraud-friendly climate in which fundamental analysis seems way down the pecking order of share picking criteria and suggested that unless it can be shown that a company is in imminent danger of going bust (Carillion, for example) shorting right now is an uphill battle. I might have added that shorting a name where there is a small free float is also a dangerous game. Which brings me back to Purplebricks (PURP).

Fox Marble – 2017 sales lower than hoped, but now looking forward to “significant growth” - BUY

Published 432 days ago

Kosovo and the Balkans region marble quarrier Fox Marble (FOX) has announced 2017 results, including that “sales have been lower than expected” but that it “has made important progress over the year… Our factory in Kosovo is now fully operational, we have entered into a number of promising sales agreements, and we are beginning to see momentum building in the demand for our marble”

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Of course you know best Neil (another bad day for Woodford), UKOG to sub 1p and Adam Reynolds NOT fired

Published 591 days ago

I hope you enjoyed the two share tips earlier and thanks for the kind words from many of you abour our place in Greece. I start with a look at Strat Aero (AERO). I covered the dire maths earlier here but it is the sheer dishonesty of the placing that really annoys me. Then I look at more bad news for Nomates Woodford from Provident Financial (PFG) which cvould well up a zero. Then I cover UK Oil & Gas (UKOG) as its shares slide again and Arian Silver (AGQ) which is worthless. Adam Reynolds was not - as gleeful in house BB loon Wildes suggests - fired by Optibiotix (OPTI) - I explain why I remain uber bullish there. Finally today's interims from Vianet (VNET) are misleading and even after a 10% fall today the stock is a slam dunk sell.

Tom Winnifrith video - 2 share tips & some great scenery at the Greek Hovel

I was originally meant to present this at an evening organised by brokers Turner Pope. But the compliance officer kicked off in an episode which fills me with despair so Turner Pope said put the video up on ShareProphets and we will give your speaker fee to Woodlarks anyway as it is a good cause. Good chaps. Seriously, TP get to do some good placings, notably of late Sosandar (SOS) where it was almost impossible to get stock anywhere else, So you should have an account with them just in case - you can call them on 0203 621 4121 to get the forms.  Now to the video...enjoy.

We like it so much we own a few shares too but won't be selling any of them till after our readers bank big gains. The shares are now 9.5p -10p! That is a potential 100% offer to bid profit!

Premaitha - puts Swiss distributor Genoma into bankruptcy: BUY

Published 798 days ago

The issue with Genoma was flagged up in the interims pre-Christmas. It owes Premaitha (NIPT) £750,000. BNN Technology (BNN) has duly announced its prelims for the year to Dec 2016. First of all: hats off to broker Mirabaud for finding punters willing to throw a further £25 million at the company on top of £51 million stumped up last year.

BNN Technology - still hugely overvalued. Sell.

Published 830 days ago

I hadn’t heard of BNN Technology (BNN) until last Wednesday, when the shares tanked nearly 30% without any news, forcing the company to issue a statement to the effect that revenue was expected to grow this year, the prelims for year to Dec 2016 will be out before Easter and that the company was sitting on £28 million cash at the beginning of the year. I thought this warranted a closer look.

Falanx - MidGard launch and massive name tie ups

Published 843 days ago

You would not have thought that Falanx (FLX) had, yesterday,  served up some cracking news but it has. The shares rose just a fraction tpo 6.5p-7p. The market is missing what is going on for now, here but the import will sink in. We are well ahead on our 4.5p offer share tip but there is plenty more to go for.

Three Top Tips To Tweak the Tricky Task of Ticklish Timing

Published 857 days ago

Hello Share Carriers. It’s often said - and for good reason - that timing is everything in the great share game. Usually it’s trying to sell at the top and buy at the bottom. As this is well nigh impossible, it’s probably useful to look at other matters of timing, which are a bit easier to achieve.

Premaitha share issue - not a grovel sort of placement: BUY

Published 882 days ago

After two pieces of good news in as many days you do not need to be cynic of the year to expect a placing. But this is not a placing as in the company's broker goes and grovels to fund managers. BREAKING: Snake Oil Salesman & Charlatan Darren Winters defeated and humiliated in Court - The curse of ShareProphets is upon him

Published 898 days ago

For almost 20 years, the spiv Darren Winters has been making a killing charging mug punters five figure sums for utterly worthless stockmarket courses. His salesman get punters to sign pieces of paper which they say do not bind them to anything then bully and threaten folks for thousands of pounds. In 2015 we started to expose this conman and Winters threatened us with legal action unless we desisted HERE. We said "see you in Court Bitchez!" and he declined that offer. We then started funding various cases of folks who Winters was trying to fleece. Winters has used google to try to stop people finding out about this (see HERE) but yesterday one case came to Court. It was a disastrous humiliation for Winters - who sent his ghastly Mrs Tatjana to represent him - and ouzo o'clock for ShareProphets & the Sheriff of AIM. Here is the story of Mr O.

Writing to NOMADs. A New Year Resolution. First Off is Harvest Minerals.

Published 923 days ago

I have often grumbled about the inadequacies of the AIM NOMAD system which has always seemed to me to be an inherent conflict of interest. That is to say that NOMADs are expected to ensure that their client companies adhere to the AIM rules and given that they are paid by these companies, the temptation to ignore transgressions is irresistible, particularly given the reputation for inaction by the regulatory authorities.

Challenge accepted, Mr Winnifrith: my stock picks for 2017

Published 923 days ago

Last week, Tom accused me of bailing on on my 2017 tips as I was too busy dancing naked around the Winterval Pole praying for Gaia to weaken the minds of good people around the world to accept ciimate change. Or something like that, I didn't read it too closely. Now, my role here at ShareProphets is to keep the plates spinning, not make the tips. But that changes today.

The shares are now 510p and still a buy.

ShareProphets share tips of the year number 23: Sell Telit Communications says Tom Winnifrith

Published 928 days ago

Telit Communications (TCM) is the most heavily shorted stock on AIM but its share price has proved incredibly resilient. At 275p it is almost up at 2016 year highs and the company is capitalised at £317 million. But you simply cannot defy gravity forever and, as a sell, it is my next share tip of the year.

I very much hope that Hayley & Kate, pictured below,, enter and are successful. If they do win there is no need for them to dress up, if that makes them feel uncomfortable. I have two ideas for my sell but think Steve would ban them both so instead I go for one he will allow and explain why it is going to 0p. Then I explain why my buy - which we do own - could multibag.  I hope you will enter the contest as well and you can do so HERE

ShareProphets share tips of the year Number 21 - Buy Minoan says Tom Winnifrith

Published 930 days ago

Minoan (MIN) has been something of an AIM uber-dog for many years. It is a stock that I have tipped with success once and with lack of success more than once. Its failure to deliver on gaining planning consent on its Cave Sidero site in Crete over more than a decade is perhaps why its shares languish at 6.25-6.5p. But 2017 will be THE year.

ShareProphets Share Tips of the year number 20: Buy Amryt Pharma says Tom Winnifrith

Published 930 days ago

Boy did Amryt bore its loyal shareholders, including us, to tears for most of 2016. Owning this stock, formerly a failed oil explorer Fastnet, was like watching paint dry. Amid a totally understandable ennui the shares drifted back to lows of just under 14p which - as we had tipped the shares at 18.4p and bought ourselves at higher levels - was a bit of a pain. But then in November it roared into life and the shares are now 18.5p-20.5p and are my second buy tip of the year at up to 22p.

ShareProphets share tips of the year Number 19: Sell Taihua says Nigel Somerville

Published 930 days ago

ShareProphets AIM-China Filthy Forty play Taihua (TAIH) is, in my view, a screaming sell in view of the Red Flags highlighted on this site for months. I doubt very much whether a short position is possible with this stock, but if I were a holder I’d be running for the hills.

ShareProphets Share Tips of the year Number 17 - Sell Eden Research says Tom Winnifrith

Published 932 days ago

In the long run buying shares in companies that break accounting rules, commit fraud and which are running out of, other people's, money is a recipe for poverty and thus AIM listed fraud Eden Research is my second share tip of the year, like my first (Cloudtag HERE) it is as a sell. The shares are now xxp but this is a sell at any price down to 0p. Frauds are always worthless in the end.

ShareProphets Share Tips of the year Number 18 - buy Wishbone Gold says Tom Winnifrith

Published 932 days ago

You want your share tip of the year to have the potential to double or treble. You will not get that with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). Equally it is incredibly unlikely that you might lose 75% of your cash on Glaxo. Elephants do not gallop eith forwards or backwards. My third tip of the year is a stock that could lose 75% and become a cash shell. But it is also one that could easily treble and I think he odds are on the treble not the collapse. I refer to Wishbone Gold (WSBN)

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Why Criminal Aidan Earley must be defeated for the sake of AIM and for Natural Justice

Published 933 days ago

If the bonkers convicted criminal Aidan Earley goes through with his threat and takes legal action against me I shall see him in court and - once again - I shall defeat him. I explain what happened last time we met and why it is vital that Earley is now crushed. If he wins I shall quit writing about shares and this website will close. You say "so what?". The point is that if Earley wins it will become suicidal to run negative articles even on the most blatant of frauds, he will have established this principle. London will become a safe haven for fraudsters. That is what Earley wants. This article HERE is referred to when I say how FEW companies I accuse of fraud, contrary to what the dirty little criminal Earley says.

ShareProphets share tips of the year Number 16: Sell IGAS says Nigel Somerville

ShareProphets Share Tips of the year Number 12 Steve Moore says sell Tungsten

Published 934 days ago

Recent half-year results from Tungsten Corporation (TUNG) sought to emphasise “statutory loss after tax £4.5 million, a £15.5 million improvement over H1-FY16”. However, not included in this comparison is that the prior period loss included £6.8 million of non-cash impairment and £2.3 million of finance cost foreign exchange losses against, respectively, none and a £5.2 million gain this time around. Capitalised, at a current 53.75p bid price, at approaching £68 million and it looking like there is further prodigious cash burn ahoy, the shares are a sell…

Shareprophets Share tips of the year Number 11 - Cynical Bear says sell Challenger Acquisitions

However, I think there’s plenty more to go and would actually be surprised if it still existed by this time next year.

ShareProphets Share Tips of the year 2017 number 10: Steve Moore says Buy Interquest

Published 935 days ago

Following another profit warning recently, InterQuest (ITQ) has been a disastrous tip for 2016 from myself (though, thankfully, outweighed by my other one, Avesco Group, delivering a more than 180% return). But the current 36p offer price for the shares looks to me much too harsh an appraisal…

However, this is still down from 290p reached in October - and I believe there could be much more to come and so it is my first tip of the year.

Best FTSE-100 short for 2017?  After musing about the property stocks I chanced upon Wolseley’s (WOS) epic push towards a 50 quid share price.  First congratulations to anyone who picked up shares in the plumbing and building industry supplier at the time of the Brexit referendum vote for around 36 quid.  My advice though for 2017 is to sell the shares.

ShareProphets Share Tips of the year 2017: No 2 Sell Cloudtag says Tom Winnifrith

Published 939 days ago

I kick off my contribution to the 24 share tips of the year for 2017 that ShareProphets writers will be publishing between now and January 3 with one of the four sells I shall deliver. And I start with the most obvious: sell AIM fraud Cloudtag (CTAG) at 7.125p with a 0p target.

ShareProphets Share Tips of the year 2017: No 1 Buy Whitbread says Chris Bailey

Published 939 days ago

If you want to buy just one new single stock in the FTSE-100 for 2017 you need to look at the perceived Brexit losers given, over the course of the next 12 months, Brexit apocalypse will move further away via delays and position dilution.  Forget big overseas earners as this backdrop will crimp their translated back into Sterling earnings so it has to be more domestic plays.  And filtering for market leadership, strong balance sheet and continued growth hopes I end up with Whitbread (WTB) the owner of the Costa Coffee and Premier Inn franchises.

2016 in review: our top 30 articles and Tom's ten most read non financial pieces

Published 940 days ago

As the year draws to a close it is only natural that we look back on the past twelve months. And it has been twelve months of achievement. It is a great achievement in that our writers have continued to write exactly what they want without any editorial interference. So Cynical Bear & Gary Newman have knocked shares I own. So what? We really do support free speech.  And it has been a year when we have "dealt with" more frauds and lies on the AIM casino and the main market than ever before. That really is the USP of ShareProphets.

Thoughts on the rout of the spreadbetting firms -a pair trade: buy IG sell Plus

Published 949 days ago

The Market reaction to last Tuesday’s news that the FCA was proposing stricter rules for CFD products was predictably savage. Since then IG has continued to weaken ( 470p at the time of writing) whereas Plus has rallied a little (373p ditto).

Tom Winnifrith's share tips of the year No 7 - Buy Premaitha at 18.5p - target 30p

Published 1293 days ago

Ok this was one of my less successful share tips of the year for 2015 but this time it really will come good. That will be the prompt for guffaws of laughter from Wildes, who is currently sitting on a sinking lifeboat from the doomed SS LGO Energy. But he who laughs last...

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast 3 January - reviewing the Midas tips of the year 2016

The share tips of the year from Joanne Hart in the Mail on Sunday Midas column are interesting. Tom Winnifrith's share tips of the year Number 5 - sell LGO Energy at 0.265p

Published 1295 days ago

This company is on the precipice. It needs to raise £5-6 million in emergency equity to keep going and everything is going against it. The best case for LGO Energy (LGO) is mega dilution from whatever is a confetti issuing machine, but an equally plausible outcome is insolvency.

Tom Winnifrith's share tips of the year Number 4 - Sell Fast Forward Innovations at 17p

Published 1297 days ago

A reader posted on our comments section: "Ive also just bought into FFWD. Tom why can't you tip this for 2016 instead of repeat tips on OPTI and NIPT?" Hmmm well I am sure that Optiobiotix shares will race ahead ( 100p + within weeks after the next deal is announced) and that Premaitha will announce new contracts and that it is passed the inflexion point of cash breakeven soon and that its shares will head to 30p+. That is why I tip them as buys. You want me to tip shares that will go up ,right? But your wish is my command and so I will also tip FastForward Innovations. But as a sell at 17p.

Malcolm Stacey's share tips of the year Number 2 - buy Royal & Sun Alliance

Published 1297 days ago

Let me confess. The main reason I choose the old Royal Insurance, Royal & Sun Alliance (RSA) as my second New Year tip is that it has a good chance of being taken over in the next twelve months.

Tom Winnifrith's share tips of the year Number 3 - Buy Reach4Entertainment at 1.5p

Published 1297 days ago

There is no doubt that Reach4Entertainment (R4E) has been a total dog of an investment for many a year. But it goes into 2016 in great shape. We have bought shares in the market at 1.4p and 1.45p. I reckon the shares are going to 3.5-4.5p within two years and as such this is my 3rd tip of the year.

Lucian Miers share tips of the year Number 1: Sell InternetQ at 61.25p, target price 0p

Published 1298 days ago

In the end it all comes down to cash. Good companies generate it. Bad companies run out and in the end go bust. The shares go to 0p. And that brings me to Greece based InternetQ (INTQ) which - as a sell - is my first share tip of the year.

Robert Tyerman's share tips of the year number 2 - Buy Rio Tinto

Published 1298 days ago

Shares in blue-chip mining giant Rio Tinto (RIO) have not been immune from the stockmarket carnage that falling commodity prices have inflicted on the whole mining sector, though at £19.85, down from a 12-month high of £32.37, they have fared much better than many of their weaker brethren. It is my second share tip of the year for 2016.

Notes from Underground: Boxing Day Rebellion

Published 1299 days ago

Today's edition comes from the banks of the Ottawa River in the bucolic Gatineau region of Canada. Unusually for this date, there is no snow and the river is unfrozen. Ciimate change denier Tom Winnifrith will probably put the blame on Canadian pot-smokers warming the air in anticipation of looming legalisation.

Zak Mir's share tips of the year Number 2 - Buy Egdon Resources

Published 1299 days ago

2015 was the year when (at least for now), I had to swallow my disappointment regarding there possibly not being 1 billion barrels of oil under Gatwick airport. But it was the year when the long awaited shale gas / fracking revolution looked to be finally getting underway. While there are doubts about the possible environmental effects, poisoning aquifers, and of course the not in my back yard syndrome, the fact is that The Treasury needs the money to fund money guzzling organisations such as the NHS.

Zak Mir's share tips of the year Number 1 - Buy Bacanora Minerals

Gary Newman's share tips of the year Number 1 - Buy Vedanta

Published 1300 days ago

Vedanta (VED) is a company that I have been consistently wrong about over the past year or so, but which I still like! Like pretty much any resource stock its shares have been slaughtered over the past 12 months, having traded in the mid 550s at the start of the year, as opposed to the current share price in the 280p range. That means its market cap has taken a hit of in the region of £770 million.

Nigel Somerville's share tips of the year Number 1 - Sell Igas

Published 1301 days ago

Shares in AIM-listed Igas (IGAS) have been heading south for almost two years. First we had the oil price coming off sharply. Then we had the Equities First scandal involving the former CEO selling shares when the market was told he was buying. And then the oil price slid some more. In early 2014 the shares peaked at 160p and it has been downhill all the way since then. The Christmas Eve close at 18.5p values the company at £55.3 million (source: ADVFN). But there is much further to go. Here are ten reasons why.

Tom Winnifrith's share tips of the year No 1 - Buy Petropavlovsk at 6.7p offer

Published 1303 days ago

You have, by now, read my macro calls for 2016 which you may or may not have dismissed as complete mumbo jumbo but I hope they make sense. You will see that I expect the gold price to pick up during the next 12 months. Not to rocket but to improve and that makes Petropavlovsk (POG) at a 6.7p offer a very obvious first tip of the year.

Some folks never make mistakes with shares. They are the heroes of the Bulletin Boards.  You read their boasts all the time. So that is why they are still living in Council Houses trading parcels of £500 worth of shares. Yes they are making it all up. In the real world everyone gets it wrong some time. The hard thing is admitting it and acting on it fast.

Buy Premaitha Health at a 20p offer,
says Tom Winnifrith

Published 1400 days ago

This was not going to be my tip in the recently published book "The Magnificent 7" which you can download for free HERE. I was set to tip Optibiotix (OPTI) at c40p. Unfortunately for you (but fortunately for me since we own shares in the company) the share price has raced ahead to a 48p offer. I still think that they could head much higher and Zak Mir reckons that Optibiotix shares will be 60p by October. I think, that is what a chartist terms a long term view.

The launch of the ShareProphet's China Filthy Forty is the kind of thing that shows why the financial press fear ShareProphets. Clear and devastating. It sums up ShareProphets as a whole. It also demands an informed readership. Your average ThisIsMoney.co.uk reader isn't going to come across a chart of 40 Chinese companies which IPO'd on AIM, shares in which  are almost all underwater, and understand the relevance. This sometimes puts ShareProphets in a bind, where we seem to be wonks speaking to swotters.

Do Share Tips Affect Prices – Do they Buck Stone Abbey?!

Published 1506 days ago

Hello Sharemates. When a share bounces up fast, there is often a report on RNS saying the board knows no reason why the shares should have risen. Sometimes, it will add…’other than comments on bulletin boards’. This was the case with a little £3 million pound set-up, called Feedback (FDBK), which I highlighted this week. Before that, a message appeared from Advanced Oncotherapy (AVO) saying that the company did not know of reasons for a boost in share price after I wrote about it.

Jubilee Platinum - we are 16% ahead in a month more to come, still a buy

Published 1512 days ago

This week Jubilee Platinum (JLP) has announced a 1.6p per share placing to raise £600,000 “to ensure that no momentum is lost in current business development activities with particular attention to the simultaneous execution of the company's platinum surface processing projects”. We are aware that it was offered more but took enough for its needs and no more. For that we applaud it. The shares now trade at 1.8-1.9 - that is on an offer to bid basis more than 15% up on our tip price of amonth ago. But there is more to come.

ShareProphets Appeal: save Chris Oil: persuade the Takeover Panel that he is 100% clueless

Published 1536 days ago

We are just such nice guys here at ShareProphets – we want to help out those least able to help themselves. And so we come to the case of Chris Oil (AKA Mrs Williams) and that holding of 48% of New World Oil and Gas (NEW) – as opposed to the 10% figure that Nomad and Broker Beaumont Cornish was happy to sign off just last week. Mrs Oil/Chris Williams (mix and match as appropriate) has a potential £7m problem – but YOU can help save him/her.

Tom Winnifrith’s Easter share tips (buy) No 3 – Stanley Gibbons

Published 1565 days ago

Malcolm Stacey’s Easter share tips No 3 - Avacta

Published 1566 days ago

A year ago, I had three beautiful cats. Now I have only one. In between, came some agonising trips to the vets to try and save two lives. It was not possible in the end, though of course my family did everything they could to postpone the inevitable.

Tom Winnifrith’s Easter share tips (buy) No 2 – Vislink at 51p

Published 1566 days ago

My second share tip for Easter is a tech stock but not one of those that has zero revenues or uses the dreaded EBITDA metric to justify its lack of real profits. This is a real company making real profits. Tip two is Vislink (VLK) at 51p.

Tom Winnifrith Easter share tips (buys) No 1 – InterQuest at 100p

Published 1566 days ago

It has been a poor six months for shareholders in Interquest (ITQ). The stock zoomed to 130p as it put itself up for sale but no offers came in at the right price so the shares tanked to 88p. That was a big over-reaction as the company is going great guns. That is why Interquest at 100p is my first Easter share tip (buy).

Malcom Stacey’s Share tips for Easter No 2 – Good Energy

Published 1567 days ago

Wind farms and solar energy are achieving a much higher profile these days. The rather beautiful white giants are springing up in windy corners everywhere. Vast banks of solar cells are beginning to spread. And even though the present government is cutting back on subsidies for solar energy suppliers, it still looks a reasonable bet.

Tom Winnifrith’s Easter Sell share tips No 1 – Daniel Stewart at 1.35p

Published 1567 days ago

This share price is simply insane. You can defy gravity bit not for long and at 1.35p Daniel Stewart (DAN) is capitalised at £10 million – it is at least 85% overvalued and so is the first of my here Easter short ideas.

Share Tips for 2015 update – Core VCT Update: good news – full winding up.

Published 1591 days ago

I didn’t exactly cover myself in glory when it came to the fine details of my second suggestion in the ShareProphets Christmas tip-fest HERE , but as explained HERE I think that statements from the company were materially misleading. Happily, the basic case was pretty much unchanged in that there was – as I saw it – a decent looking return to be had with a strong margin of safety. That, even though this was a VCT investment, and therefore by most readings classified as high risk. We’ve had some good news.

Tom Winnifrith’s share tips of the year 2015, No 8 – sell Jiasen International at 42.5p

Published 1658 days ago

Anyone owning a Chinese based AIM stock is certifiably bonkers.  That is especially the case if it is based in Fujian Province, a small part of the PRC which has specialised in listing frauds on AIM, the Frankfurt Exchange, the TSX and NASDAQ.  The Fujian four on AIM are: Camkids (CAMK), Naibu (NBU), China Chaintek (CTEK) and Jiasen International (JSI) and for all four my ultimate target price is 0p. But I feature Jiasen today at 42.5p as a sell of the year.

Chris Oil’s share tips of the year 2015, No 1 - Buy Falcon Oil & Gas at a 5.75p offer

Published 1658 days ago

Following the investor excitement surrounding UK onshore plays in 2014, followed by the damp squib at Horse Hill and then a plunging oil price, my first 2015 tip of the year is a fully funded low cost play - . Falcon Oil & Gas (FOG) at a 5.75p offer.

Why do writers opt NOT to own the shares they write about?

Chris Bailey’s share tips for 2015 No 2 - Aviva

Published 1660 days ago

Hopefully I don’t need to elaborate on the observation that the global economy has a few problems otherwise at this stage of the economic ‘rebound’ from the dark days of 2007-9 interest rates would be going up.  This warped environment favours a different sort of share and – sorry to say for any current employees who will be impacted – but Aviva’s (AV.) cost cutting heavy takeover of Friends Life (FLG) is just the sort of story that has a strong chance of working next year.

Lucian Miers share tips for 2015, No 2 – Sell Avanti Communications

Published 1660 days ago

Shares in Avanti (AVN) have managed to head higher in recent months thanks to a rumour that Facebook was about to bid. Now Facebook might just co-operate with Avanti to bring the internet to Bongo Bongo land but that will not earn Avanti a fortune and there is no way that a bid is on the way. So I am very happily short on fundamentals.

Mark Howitt’s share tips of the year No2 – GlaxoSmithKline

Published 1660 days ago

After some careful thought I have selected GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) as one of just two of my Prime Share Selections for 2015. Being honest, I find it difficult to pick two which really should be the best of all shares, but I am fairly confident GlaxoSmithKline will perform well in 2015.

HotStockRockets share tips of the year 2015 No 1 – Buy Minoan at 10.25p

Published 1662 days ago

Minoan (MIN) shares have taken a Christmas beating thanks to Greece where the buffoons in charge have contrived to ensure that the country faces another General election in late January. The market has over-reacted and that makes the shares at 10.25p (a market cap of £17 million) the first HotStockRockets share tip of the year 2015.

Robert Sutherland Smith’s share tips of the year 2015 No 2 – Buy Rolls Royce

Published 1662 days ago

My second choice for the traditional Christmas share consideration and selection game has the following merits. It is a share that has performed well over the long term but having underperformed the market this year. It looks attractive on a technical interpretation of the share price chart and is well supported by fundamentals on low estimated measures of value. It is of course, Rolls Royce (RR.) which I last visited in October when the shares were 800p and looking, I thought, particularly bombed out.

Robert Tyerman’s share tips for 2015 No 2 – Buy Randgold Resources

Published 1662 days ago

Gold has been the despair of its fans ever since hitting $1,900 an ounce three years ago. Instead of soaring above $2,000 and on into the stratosphere, amid international political and economic turbulence, the perverse yellow metal has slithered back to below $1,180 an ounce, as the US economy and dollar have proved unexpectedly strong and oil has lately taken a spectacular tumble.

Tom Winnifrith’s Share Tips for 2015, No 5 – Sell Quindell, target 0p

Published 1663 days ago

Some of you may regard this as boring. There is after all, ALMOST, nothing written below that I have not written before. But I promised my top 5 shorts as part of my 10 tips of the year and Quindell (QPP) is my top short. Quite simply these shares are worthless. And so selling at 42p or whatever you can get is a sure fire 100% win. This is a “niller” at so many levels. Where do we start?

Chris Bailey of Financial Orbit's share tips for 2015 No 1 - Reloading on Randgold Resources

Published 1663 days ago

A year ago I tipped Randgold Resources (RRS) as my ‘FTSE-100 tip of the year’ and despite the volatility in the underlying gold price and desperate performance of the average gold miner the tip has done well and has nicely outperformed the UK’s leading share index.

We do not tip shares very often but on Monday... That is today at 3.30 PM

Published 1663 days ago

Steve Moore and I have been cautious on shares and especially AIM shares for a year. We have not touched some sectors like oil at all. And we have been vindicated. We are value investors and thus caution is the name of the game. The skills we use in detecting frauds like Quindell are the same skills we use in unearthing value buys. But it is Christmas and we have a new share tip underway. Like the Tailor of Gloucester we are still hard at work on it as the big day approaches.

Tom Winnifrith’s Tip of the Year No 4 – Buy Optibiotix

Published 1664 days ago

As I noted in my ten macro themes for 2015 article (HERE) the analysis that Steve Moore and I serve up is bottom up – that is to say company specific – not so much macro driven. But the odd macro think session establishes useful tramlines for the investment process. My firstsecond and third share tips for 2015 are already live and so onto Number 4.

Mark Howitt’s share tips for 2015 – No 1: HSBC

Published 1664 days ago

What first attracted me to HSBC (HSBA) as a tip of the year? The fact that I knew how cold and ruthless it could be. I have a certain amount of ‘inside information’ on this. When you look at HSBC... there is often something quite clinical about it. My sister has a bank account with HSBC... you would be hard pressed to easily find that it pays no interest at all. “This account pays no credit interest” it says in the small print. However, if she went overdrawn she’d be charged around 18% every year.

Robert Tyerman’s share tips of the year No 1 – Paragon Diamonds

Published 1664 days ago

Diamonds seem to have escaped the worst of the carnage that has afflicted other commodities, from gold to iron ore and participants in the sector, perhaps unsurprisingly, claim to see a widening of interest in the dazzling gemstones, from China to the Middle East, with a new emphasis on their potential merits as investments as well as adornments. One such enthusiast is Philip Manduca, former hedge fund pioneer, brother of the head of the Prudential insurance giant and chairman of AIM-quoted Paragon Diamonds (PRG).

Nigel Somerville’s share tips for 2015 – No 2 Core VCT (CR3) and Core IV VCT (CR4)

Published 1664 days ago

If my first idea for 2015 of Scancell (SCLP) which you can read HERE seemed high risk then this one will look – at first glance – off the scale. But there is method in my madness. Core VCT (CR3) is an arbitrage buy with what looks to be limited downside. Here is why.

Tom Winnifrith’s share tips for 2015 No 3 – Sell Globo at 39p

Published 1664 days ago

My general view on equities is mildly bearish as I explained in my macro calls piece HERE. As such I will be serving up 5 longs and five shorts as my tips of the year. The first long was HERE and the first short HERE. Now for Number 3, Globo (GBO), the sort of flim flam that will suffer badly in a bear market.

Gary Newman’s 2015 share tips of the year – No 1 buy Genel Energy

Published 1664 days ago

My first ‘tip for 2015’ has to be Genel Energy (GENL) which has the potential for big returns and is better positioned than some of its peers.

Tom Winnifrith’s share tips for 2015 No 2 – sell Igas at 39.5p – target cut to 10p

Published 1665 days ago

In my macro themes for 2015 article HERE I stated that I was fundamentally bearish on equities and as such half of my ten tips of the year would be shorts. Another theme for 2015 (as it was for 2014) was an extreme aversion to oil stocks. In that vein I return to Igas (IGAS) which I first suggested shorting at 56p a month or so ago HERE but where I am now halving my target price to 10p making this my second top short for 2015.

Nigel Somerville’s 2015 share tips of the year – No 1: Scancell

Published 1665 days ago

Scancell (SCLP) is a biotech stock I’ve been keen on for some four or five years. The statistics on getting new treatments through clinical trials and regulatory approvals are terrible, so we are certainly at the high-risk end of the spectrum, but I believe the risk/reward is favourable and I like the company, management, the way it behaves (important!) and the products currently being developed. Here is why.

James Parter’s 2015 share tips of the year – No 1 – sell Solo Oil at 0.6p

Published 1665 days ago

Solo Oil (SOLO) is one of a few AIM listed oil companies where there is activity on most fronts. The hot front to the south sees Solo progress gas exploration in Tanzania. The cold front in England sees Solo progress its oil exploration at Horse Hill. All eyes are on these two beasts after resource upgrades and the share price has rocketed to 0.6p making Solo worth £30 million. But there are great reasons to think this will at least halve by 2016.

Tom Winnifrith’s share tips of the year 2015 – No 1 Buy InterQuest at a 102p offer

One of my highlights of Christmas was a gathering of the friends of the woman I once referred to as the deluded lefty, that is to say the Mrs. I was ill so, having cooked for them, I retreated to bed with the cats, but coming down for a cup of tea I heard the most deluded of the lot of them (they are nearly all sociology lecturers) opine that she had “applied for research funding to study how black women are suffering in the recession.” Where does one start?

Lucian Miers share tips of the year Number 1 – Short Purecircle

Published 1667 days ago

I last wrote about Purecircle (PURE) in March and predicted that 2014 would be the year for the big collapse.  I was wrong: the permascam that is Purecircle has remained rock solid while all around it our favourite bear trades have borne fruit.  Indeed, for the price of Purecircle  (£940 million) you could now buy Quindell. Tom Winnifrith’s Big 10 Macro calls for 2015

Published 1668 days ago

Tomorrow I start serving up my ten tips of the year. On reflection given my bearish take on the markets I am going to go with a 50/50 long/short split. Other writers will be serving up plenty of buy ideas but I cannot bring myself to do that given my macro-take on the world. I am sorry to be so gloomy this Christmas day but for what it is worth I wish you a Merry Christmas. Now to the macrobabble:

How to play the Oil Price Slide on AIM

Published 1676 days ago

The Oil price slide throws up some interesting opportunities on the AIM market. I have shorted a basket of five stocks on the basis that if it continues to fall or stays at these levels they will get into serious financial difficulty very rapidly.  If it rallies the upside is hopefully limited by management practices that are unlikely to reward shareholders.

Bango go figure?

Published 1681 days ago

I have never understood the vagaries of how companies are valued on AIM. Select ten companies at random, have a brief trawl of their recent financials and try to guess their market caps and I defy anybody to even get close.  In this spirit I had a look at Bango (BGO) the other day and, forewarned that it was a little on the expensive side, decided to aim high.

Amino - cracking Trading Statement ( a cracking share tip)

Published 1687 days ago

Technology enabling digital programming and interactivity over IP networks-focused Amino (AMO) has updated that“profit before tax for the year ended 30 November 2014 is expected to be above market expectations” on the back of a return to revenue growth in the second half.  Good news for those who followed our tip of just a few weeks ago – we are massively ahead already.

Am I the only remaining bear in Avanti?

Published 1694 days ago

One of the big market mysteries of the last couple of months has now been solved. Why has the price of Avanti Communications (AVN) being going steadily upwards despite results that appear to confirm the worst fears of the bears? Why has the astute hedge fund Ennismore been reducing its short position?  Why has Avanti uber bear Mathew Earl – The Dark Destroyer -  gone strangely silent as the share price has ticked relentlessly North?

Two NEW share tips TODAY from the man who exposed Quindell

Published 1694 days ago

Not flinching once despite threatening lawyer’s letters, wholesale harassment abuse and even death threats Tom Winnifrith has over the past six months clearly exposed the fraud and lies at the heart of the Quindell (QPP) soufflé. He did this using forensic analysis and is using the same skills to today serve up two new share tips on two sites.

So the market is nearly back to all-time highs, everything is okay?

Published 1694 days ago

Hmmmm. Lots of low grade Aim stocks are flying, the FTSE 100 is nearly at all-time highs, there is a lot of rubbish being spouted about a Santa Rally coming early and I am stuck in Greece preparing to start the olive harvest tomorrow when I should be punting rubbish on AIM making a killing. Right? Wrong.

How Many Eggs?

Published 1700 days ago

As well as choosing different sectors of the market in which to buy your shares, really prudent investors scatter their funds over a large number of companies. If you rely on just four enterprises and one collapses, then it's serious. If you have 20 share certificates with different names at the top, big losses posted by two or three companies won't send you looking for an outside ledge on a tall building. Some brokers urge their clients to buy an interest in just 10 businesses. They argue that this is a nice manageable group and that it's hard to keep track of any more.

No argument there.

Quindell Bulletin Board Moron of the Day: Mr Palmer LSE Board – his “obligation” is to destroy me”

Published 1740 days ago

Oh dear, The Quenron (QPP) shareholder list does contain more than its fair share of complete and utter nutters. On an almost daily basis I am alerted to a post which has been made by someone who really is truly bonkers. I was entertained to see some cretin on ADVFN discuss the “TW Red Flags” on Quenron – apparently having a strong opinion which is not buy is deemed a Red Flag.  However, The Bulletin Board Moron of the Day is “Mr Palmer” on the LSE Board. On a day when another Quindell nutter who boasted on twitter of having a "hitlist" which included myself and Dan Levi has been reported to the Old Bill (not by me as I regard the Met as useless), Mr Palmer takes centre stage.

The Level & Type of Share Buybacks I see make me very worried

Published 1749 days ago

In certain circumstances share buybacks make sense. Where a company has surplus capital and cannot think of a way of earning an economic return on that capital it is absolutely right that it is returned to shareholders via buybacks. I prefer them to special dividends because one can elect to sell less or no stock or to stay on board with a bigger percentage of the equity. It is down to the individual investor. And it is right that surplus capital should be returned to the company’s owners (shareholders) not simply be hoarded by management.

Do Bulletin Board Morons Ever Learn or Ever apologise – discussion with top blogger Paul Scott

Published 1770 days ago

It was only the other day that a Bulletin Board Moron owning shares in Naibu (NBU) referred to me as Winnifraud, accusing me of making it all up. Hey presto come Friday there were dire interims and t is clear that it is not me that is the Norfolk and the moron saw his investment slump in value by another 40%. Worse is to come as I shall reveal later today.  But this follows the same pattern as we have seen with Range Resources, Sefton, Vialogy, Globo, Quindell, Iofina, blinkx, Gulf Keystone, Outsourcery etc. etc. Folks like myself and Paul Scott, the great share blogger, point out obvious reasons to sell and all we get is abuse. Paul posted this on ShareProphets yesterday re Naibu

Monitise a sell down to 10p, Twitter Moron of the Week and no It WILL NOT be different this time

Published 1785 days ago

Monitise (MONI) has announced another big name collaboration which has the Bulletin Board and twitter morons all excited. Natch there are no financials. Monitise only admits then when it says – as it does every few months – “uh, oh, another small delay in the move to profitability but do not worry revenues are going up.” My twitter moron of the week Share Tipster (@2years2go) reckons that concepts like cashflow, DCF etc are all so old hat and that I just do not get the new paradigm. Where to start.

Quindell Will Again Test Recent Lows

Published 1787 days ago

Quindell’s (QPP) Interims duly arrived last Thursday and as is so often the case with this company when it attempts to reassure the market, yet more concerns were raised.  The share price has now lost all the gains in the run up to the announcement and it would not surprise me if they test the recent 140p low in pretty short order. And the ultimate target is a tiny fraction of that.

Ocado – sell into the rally

Short Concha

Published 1800 days ago

As it is increasingly difficult to short stock in the real pond life on AIM, I tend to steer clear of looking at these companies unless some stock becomes available. I was told about Concha (CHA) a few months ago and when a bit of borrow came up the other day I had a quick look at it to see if it was really was that bad.

Amara Mining – we are well ahead on share tip but there’s more to come – Yaoure news

Published 1800 days ago

Steve and I have avoided tipping gold stocks on our Nifty Fifty website but we made an exception for Amara Mining (AMA) suggesting readers pile in at a 15.75p offer. The shares are now 23p and there was cracking news a couple of days ago. This stock is starting to hum.

Buy Prime People at a 95p offer

Published 1805 days ago

Investment Case: Noting that a large proportion of its cash looked surplus to what is needed in its ongoing business and for its current growth plans, Prime People plc (PRP) recently returned 15p per share (£1.82 million) to shareholders. This, together with an attractive ordinary dividend, shows a regard for shareholders that few other AIM-listed companies do. This is perhaps because the directors' interests are via their shareholdings to a rare extent aligned with other investors. We tipped this at a 90p offer a couple of weeks ago but at 95p to buy this is still a good share tip and here’s why.

Has the Bubble Burst and If So how to prosper?

Action Hotels - new contract: Buy ( look at asset backing)

Published 1809 days ago

Action Hotels (AHCG), the owner, developer and asset manager of branded economy and midscale hotels in the Middle East and Australia, has updated that “a memorandum of understanding has been signed with leading hotel operator Accor for the management of a new 160 room ‘Novotel’ hotel which will be built in the prime business district of Sharq in Kuwait City”. This is in addition to the pipeline of hotels announced at the time of IPO in December and makes the shares look cheap

Creston – 19% ahead on this share tip but far more to go for

Published 1810 days ago

Last week marketing communications group, Creston (CRE) announced that “current trading is in line with its expectations for the full year” (to 31stMarch 2015) – with, in the three months to 30th June 2014, like-for-like revenue 2% higher than in the corresponding 2013 period (overall revenue: +3%).  That helped the shares and we are now 19% ahead on this share tip but there is more to go for.

Buy Begbies Traynor at a 53p offer

Published 1812 days ago

Investment Case: As the UK's leading independent business recovery practice, Begbies Traynor (BEG) has been unsurprisingly adversely impacted by a low interest rate environment and lenders being unable or unwilling to crystallise losses. However, the company has restructured and remains profitable and cash generative, with an attractive dividend and undemanding rating based on its current performance. There are though now also signs that things are turning in its favour - “the expectation of an increase in interest rates over the forthcoming months has escalated recently” and with it “also retain the capacity and expertise to handle an increase in activity levels should they arise, which would result in improved profitability due to the inherent operational gearing in the business”. As such, at a current 53p offer price, the shares are a buy. Here's why.

Purecircle: The Last Shoe Yet To Drop?

Published 1820 days ago

In the last two years my seven most covered bear selections have been: Gulf Keystone (GKP), Iofina (IOF), Cupid (CUP), Quindell (QPP), Globo (GBO) Avanti(AVN) and Purecircle (PURE). With the exception of Purecircle, the other six are all firm retail favourites and I often wonder what it is that draws the private punter like a flame-bound moth to such eminently shortable stocks. One can highlight various useful themes but all seem to throw up exceptions – modestly I point oiut these have all bar one (so far) been great short calls by my good self.

ShareProphets Tip of the Week: Buy Restore at a 176p offer

Published 1832 days ago

Restore (RST) is a share tipped by Tom Winnifrith and Steve Moore at 30p back in 2010. They both still like it and see meaningful upside at a 176p offer. This is not a blow your socks off buy but a solid “sleep soundly” investment to make you market beating returns without worrying. It is a dull and predictable generator of great cashflows…what is wrong with that?

Having updated on one of my tips for 2014 earlier this month, the following updates on another after it last week announced results for a year ended 31st March 2014 and a share buy-back programme.

TWO TIPS at 3PM TODAY: THREE Compelling Reasons why investors who want to make money will join the Nifty Fifty NOW

Published 1866 days ago

If someone promises you a share tipping service based on “exciting” stocks that can gain hundreds or thousands of percent, penny share whizzers or “hidden secrets” they are yanking your chain. There is no such thing as free money where the stockmarket is concerned. Sorry if this sounds boring but successful investors know that you get rich by showing patience, by analysing accounts and by listening to proven experts with all the right contacts. And this is how you start TODAY.

The Danger of Getting Too Close to Companies - ref Vatukoula and others

Published 1868 days ago

Lucian Miers says that he does not like to meet companies. He is all too aware that part of the job of a CEO is to butter up potential investors, or to persuade bears not to go short. CEO’s are paid large sums to be charming and persuasive and Lucian is concerned that they will manage to schmooze him into making a bad call. I take a different view.

Advanced Computer Software - Cracking Results

Published 1871 days ago

Advanced Computer Software (ASW) has announced results for its year ended 28th February 2014 and flagged that “we have started the current year in line with our expectations. With double digit growth in the order book to £209m, a growing recurring revenue stream, and more customers taking our Software as a Service, we have excellent forward visibility and are increasingly confident about another strong year”.  I am due to meet up with CEO Vin Murria in a couple of weeks and will report back then on the Nifty Fifty website.

Why on earth should you join successful investors at the Nifty Fifty TODAY BEFORE 11? Here’s why.

Published 1894 days ago

You probably get loads of promotions telling you about “the one share you must buy” or “how to make 100% a day with this and that trading platform or training course.” Of course it is all total rubbish. If only life were that simple? We’d all be as rich as Buffett. The truth is that investing is hard work.

Capitalism works…even in Greece

Published 1896 days ago

As you know I have been in Greece for three weeks or more. And I come away in no doubt that the economy is picking up. Athens was almost buzzing whereas last year at the same time it was distinctly un-buzzing. Out in the boonies there has been less change.

Quindell: What Does History Show Us?

Published 1898 days ago

I read somewhere recently that one should only invest in companies where it is possible to explain what they do to a six year old. This is perhaps a little unfair in the age of fast evolving technology where often the business model, let alone the product, of highly successful companies can be pretty difficult for even brainy adult analysts to get their heads around.

In defence of Negative articles ref QPP, Iofina, Globo, blinkx, Sefton, Range, etc.

Published 1898 days ago

Writing negative pieces about companies does not win you friends. In the past year I have enjoyed as a result: lawyers letters from companies, being sued for libel, shit posted to me in the post, death threats, stalking (yesterday), numerous complaints about me to the FCA, defamatory comments about me and my restaurant on the internet and now attempts to get ADVFN to stop me writing. Bollocks! What I do is right and in the interests of shareholders. I am not stopping. Nor will this website.

Bulletin Board Morons, the sentiment of grief and Gulf Keystone

Published 1945 days ago

I gather that I am not wildly popular with certain Bulletin Board Morons for my pieces yesterday on Gulf Keystone (GKP). Arguing that the shares could be worth 0p in some circumstances (HERE) or pointing out that its Bonds were now in Junk Bond territory (HERE) was always going to attract some ire. However, the tone of the comments is most instructive. We are in phase 1 of grief.

Share tip services usually bodge performance in a number of ways. You can safely say they try to make their stats look as good as possible in order to get you to sign up. The bodges are easy.

Buy Max Property at a 157.5p offer Price

Published 1984 days ago

We tipped this stock on our Nifty Fifty website last week at 155.75p to buy. We measure our performance on an offer to bid basis unlike most websites which hide their real achievements by using a mid to mid. After 14 months in operation the average Nifty Fifty tip is (with an average holding period of around seven months) ahead by 19.38% on an offer to bid basis (including dividends). For more information ahead of our next tip go here. Back to Max (MAX). It is still a buy at 157.5p – last week’s article read:

Bulletin Board Morons and share tipsters the Law applies to both!

Published 2056 days ago

Share tipsters publish their views in their own name and declare a position in a stock covered. Bulletin board posters do neither. Most BB posters are sensible folks but some are obviously morons in that they think the law does not apply to them.

Why I Follow Share Tips on Here

Why I remain short of Cupid

Published 2095 days ago

I last reported on Cupid (CUP) shortly after it reported the disposal of its casual dating business to the company’s founder Mr Polyakov back in July I had assumed that the whole of Cupid was a “casual dating business” but no, Cupid is now a “mainstream” and “niche” dating business.

Free share tip of the week: Buy Alliance Pharma at 36.5p

Published 2290 days ago

Alliance Pharma (APH), the speciality pharmaceutical company which acquires and licenses established products in niche areas, announced its calendar 2012 results a couple of weeks ago. The numbers contained no nasty shocks. That is no surprise, one of the great attractions of Alliance is that there is a real visibility of revenues. I tipped the shares on my premium Nifty Fifty service at 31p (offer price) in December and they now trade at 36-37p but are still a buy.

Shanta Gold – Getting There: Buy at 23p

Published 2376 days ago

It was not a good Autumn for AIM listed Shanta Gold (SHG) but the last two RNS statements from the company demonstrate that it is both soundly financed and that, at last, it is delivering operationally. The shares have always had clear latent value it is just that investors have had a number of (utterly valid) reasons for not believing. But the times they are a changing.

Minoan: Acquisitions, Trading Update and Company Chat. Recovery play 2013?

Published 2429 days ago

AIM listed travel leisure and property group Minoan (MIN) has not been one of my better share tips from my days at t1ps but news out this week points the way to it being, potentially, a great recovery play for 2013. At 8.375p the company is now valued at £12.6 million. That does look far too low for me and this is why.

Hibu Interims: Still a sell at 0.25p target price still 0p

Published 2439 days ago

I warned you here back on 25th October that shares in hibu (HIBU) the online directories group formerly known as Yell were worthless and a stonking sell at 0.37p with a 0p target. Interim results out today do not change that analysis, indeed even the company seems to agree with me. The shares are now 0.25p.
