Hill & Smith – from ‘reconfirms its expectations’ to profit warning in less than 3 months (& should have been earlier!)

Hill & Smith (HILS) has announced results for the first half of 2018 – and having updated on 17th May, “...project delays and the weather-impacted start to the year in the UK... Since mid-March, the group has experienced improved order intake across its UK road and utilities businesses while continuing to record strong performances in both the US and French operations. The board reconfirms that its expectations for the full year remain unchanged”, the shares are currently circa 20% lower on the day at around 1200p…


Pipes and Roads and Drains - Not a Burt Bacharach Song, But Possibly a Tasty Punt.

Hello Share Magnates. Time to take another peek at Hill and Smith (HILS). One reason is that most of its income comes from Britain and America. So a Brexit vote should not make much difference. This Midlands company builds roads. It also does pipes, drainage outlets, security hardware. crash barriers and fences. I last looked at this outfit 4 months ago. The share price has risen from 778p then to its present level of 910p. Still room to grow some more, in my view.

Safety Barriers Sound Boring - But Where’s There’s Boredom, There’s Often Big Money. Ref: Hill and Smith.

Hello Shares Shavers. We’re constantly reminded these days that most of the world is faltering economically. You may be fed up with my view that this pessimism is being overdone by the markets. But if you disagree with me on that front, you’ll perhaps concede that Britain and the USA are still doing rather well. Our recent GDP records seem to bear this out.
